I ordered a birth certificate for May Delphine Eade born 1900 in Bethnal Green (mothers maiden name was Delphine Georgina Stark)
Expecting the father to be Arthur Frank Eade I was most surprised to see William
John Eade, occupation florist as her father. So far I have found no definate links or worked out who he was in relation to Frank Eade from Norwich, Norfolk as not on any census as his brother.

Just to add there was a William John Eade who emigrated to Australia but his relative Rhona has said definately not him so have ruled that one out!

Are you conected to May or was it a buy the cert because you thought she was connected Frank ?

My Great Grandmother was the Mother of May Eade and also had a son Arthur Frank Eade with her husband also called Frank Eade (verified on his birth certificate) So her son Arthur Frank Eade was my Grandfather :-)

Who reg May,s birth ? Wonder whether the way the question was asked the informat thought they were asking who Arthur's dad was ???

Arthurs dad was Thomas E Eade and I have compiled a tree cheking the census returns to confirm.

You may get lucky and fiind his army record at The National Archives at Kew

Delphine at one point lived in Methodist church accomodation in Sydenham as her son Arthur Frank Eade was born out of wedlock. I noticed that there was a police station across the road and my mum told me that the person she later married Arthur was policeman!

Very strange where the William name comes from

Yes Arthur is listed as a policeman on the 1901 census but then working for the railway on the 1911 census

So the mystery is who on earth was William John Eade, florist who is listed as the father of May Eade on her birth certificate?

Yes, what do you think Shirley? Can Delphine just make up a name if May was conceived out of wedlock and she wanted to list a name to save face? ;-)

Definately a William John Eade born 1867, Kensington when I do a search for births on genesreunited.

Well she and Arthur were living together on the 1901 and 1911 census

Was she the informant on Mays birth cert ?? It she may have made up the name

How do the birth and marriage dates stack up ? Did she marry Arthur after the birth of May

Says born May 8th living at 230 Wilmot street. Fathers occ police constable

So born after they married which is odd . They must have been aware that Arthur's name isn't on the birth cert so there was something going on .

Maybe she paired up with William John Eade but was supported througout her pregnancy by Arthur Eade then later married him. I wonder if anone can find a William John Eade listed as florist as his occupation on 1901 or 1911 census as so far no luck.
You are probably correct Shirley that something was going on, but I wonder from the 1911 census where they tell porkies if another game to save face when May born out of wedlock. I am going to dig out their son Arthur' certificate as come to think of it no father at all listed on his 1897 birth certificate!! :-S
