I am trying to trace my dad's Dad - William Frith (My dad who is now deceased)
Can you help?
All I have is that he was married to Elizabeth Grace Singlehurst in 1927 had 3 children and then the marriage broke down.
I would love to know who he was and about his life, for my dad's sake he never knew.
I'm sure he went on to another life & he was very happy.

To give an idea of the area
William Frith Spouse Surname: Singlehurst Date of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec 1927 Registration district: Northampton Inferred County: Northamptonshire Volume Number: 3b Page Number: 107
Do you have the marriage certificate please? That would tell you William's age and father's name and occupation.

Welcome to the boards Louisa.
You should get used to using the free site below to look for bmd's from Q3 1837 to around the 1960's or so at present. It's an on going project and will eventually go to 1983. Commercial websites go to around 2006
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/
Here you will find the marriage listed (along with another on the same page). You know who married who so not a problem at this stage.
Surname First name(s) Spouse District Vol Page Marriages Dec 1927 (>99%) Beeden Frank C Chambers Northampton 3b 107 Chambers Margaret E Beeden Northampton 3b 107 FRITH William Singlehurst Northampton 3b 107 <<<<<<<<< Singlehurst Grace Frith Northampton 3b 107 <<<<<<<<<

Using the same site you can find Grace's birth (which MAY give an idea of William's age, but not necessarily. She was born in Northampton as well as marrying there.
The marriage certificate would confirm the ages of William and Grace and should also give the names and occupations of both father's to help track them down.
?? Surname First name(s) District Vol Page Births Dec 1887 (>99%) Singlehurst Grace Northampton 3b 61
From Q3 1911 mother's maiden names are shown on the registration, but not before then. By entering Frith as surname with Mothers maiden name Singlehurst you could find the name of your father and his siblings
EDIT - perhaps not this birth.
There is an Elizabeth Grace Singlehurst born 1907 in Tundra, India - see next post

??? Perhaps this birth as you say her name was Elizabeth Grace. Although the marriage has her as only Grace (not unusual to miss a forename).
This is where the marriage certificate would come in useful for ages and fathers names

A tree on Ancestry has the 1907 birth in India relating to the girl that married William Frith in 1927.
William's birth is given as 1908 Coventry, where they are living in 1930 it says.
(This would go with births 1928 (died 1930) in Northampton and 2 further in the Coventry area)
The same tree has a picture of William's house in Coventry after the divorce!
His parents are given as Samuel Frith b 1879 Staleybridge and Lily b 1879 Sheffield
Grace said to have died Dec 1999 Croydon, having remarried to Hughey F C Collins but nothing further on William

That same tree has an image of William and Grace's marriage certificate.
He is a 19 year old Bachelor
She is a 20 year old spinster. Her father is Alfred William
Can anyone decipher the rest, I can't get a clear look at it??
Could be the Parish church of Hartingstone, where both bride and groom are resident possibly?

Had a look Greyghost but I couldn't read it either. I do think William's father looks to read as Samuel but can't decipher his occupation.
Maybe 1911?

The child that died was Irene Constance Frith b 1827 Northants, died 16 April 1930 Coventry. The Ancestry tree has a picture of her with a Notice of death from Gulson Road Municipal Hospital and a bill for funeral and cemetery expenses from A Pargetter Funeral Furnisher.

OMG!!!
I didn't realize all this conversation had happened, till just now! Thank you. :)
I have managed to find out about my Grandmother Elizabeth Grace Singlehurst born in India but it is her first husband William Frith my REAL granddad I have so little to go on.
I know they (Elizabeth & William) were married in 1927 - William was from the Midlands, as a little boy that's where my dad grew up in Coventry...
I don't have any documentation as in a birth certificate for my dad or a marriage cert for my grandparents ... I think those documents would have more info on them?
I'm going to read these posts now...

Louisa, someone has your grandparents marriage posted on Ancestry. The problem is the name and occupation for William's father are difficult to read on the image. His father's name looks like Samuel to me. If it is I think that's William with his parents on the 1911 census posted.
