His service records would still be with the MOD. Only records prior to 1922 are on line. If he died 25 years or more ago, you can apply for a copy otherwise you would have to prove kinship with copies of certificates. As you can't identify your Mum's birth, that's a bit tricky

Have you searched for her birth amongst the military and overseas BMD on this site?

Have you ever seen a copy of your mothers marriage certificate to see if a fathers name is entered,,,

Also you say adopted by the grandmother,,,,was there no grandfather?

Are there any famliy members you can ask in confidence?

Hi Kay, I have seen the marriage certificate, I will check again. Know there wasn't a grandfather as he had already died. I haven't got anybody I can ask that's why it's so frustrating.

That you to the other person for advise...... I will try and check with the MOD. I haven't searched yet with the military with BMD. I'm not brilliant at doing all this but get by.

Thank you

Have you looked for the father / brother on immigration lists to see who is travelling with him?

If he was in the Army though, he may not appear on the usual passenger list.

Sorry...I'm not sure about GR searches.
I have a subscription to Ancestry and can search in-coming passengers there.

If you want me to look for you, send a message by PM, by clicking on my name.

Would the father in the army especially serving in India in 1942 at the height of the war and travel by sea, when ships were being blown out the water left right and centre risk bringing a baby?it would have been very very difficult.
also would he be allowed leave by the MOD.?
