I don't know the answer to that Kay.......thank you Gwyn.

Kay????

Kay???? Report 11 Nov 2014 08:24

Would the father in the army especially serving in India in 1942 at the height of the war and travel by sea, when ships were being blown out the water left right and centre risk bringing a baby?it would have been very very difficult.
also would he be allowed leave by the MOD.?

Sorry...I'm not sure about GR searches.
I have a subscription to Ancestry and can search in-coming passengers there.

If you want me to look for you, send a message by PM, by clicking on my name.

Have you looked for the father / brother on immigration lists to see who is travelling with him?

If he was in the Army though, he may not appear on the usual passenger list.

Hi Kay, I have seen the marriage certificate, I will check again. Know there wasn't a grandfather as he had already died. I haven't got anybody I can ask that's why it's so frustrating.

That you to the other person for advise...... I will try and check with the MOD. I haven't searched yet with the military with BMD. I'm not brilliant at doing all this but get by.

Thank you

Have you ever seen a copy of your mothers marriage certificate to see if a fathers name is entered,,,

Also you say adopted by the grandmother,,,,was there no grandfather?

Are there any famliy members you can ask in confidence?

His service records would still be with the MOD. Only records prior to 1922 are on line. If he died 25 years or more ago, you can apply for a copy otherwise you would have to prove kinship with copies of certificates. As you can't identify your Mum's birth, that's a bit tricky

Have you searched for her birth amongst the military and overseas BMD on this site?

Deborah Report 9 Nov 2014 18:55

Oh right I thought u had to show ur birth certificate.
Well she has never had a passport . If I search for her father it won't show me anything of interest on his birth certificate. I have just joined this site for India in war times, perhaps I need to try and search for her father serving in the army. What do you think?

Kay????

Kay???? Report 9 Nov 2014 18:38

Deborah,,,you dont have to show a birth certificate when you get married if you are over 18 or post 1969 and you were over 21. ,,,,,,,,but a full birth certificate is required for a passort or any offcial office that requires it,

If she came to the UK in 1942,,,,war years,? then she would have needed her own passort or been shown on a parent/s as children didnt normally have a passport of their own unless they were lone travelers,

Hi Jax, it was in 2005.

Hi Kay,
As far as I'm aware she was the daughter of what she thought was her brother but was really her father. I think she was conceived in India and then brought back by her father, then her grandmother adopted her. But I also think this was not formerly. But how did she get married? As normally you have to show your birth certificate.???. This is what I don't get.

Thank you for reading.

Kay???? Report 9 Nov 2014 17:16

If it was her grandmother that adopted her,,,then one of your mothers parents would have been a son or daughter of the grandmother,,,,,,if it was the birth mum then the full birth names may not have changed.it just went though the process of a legal adoption,,,,,,,,perhaps there was never a formal adoption,?

jax Report 9 Nov 2014 11:35

You posted a message on what board? This one??

Deborah

Deborah Report 9 Nov 2014 08:10

I posted a message on the board. A Lady got in touch with me and told me everything and showed me photos of my mum as a child. She remembered my mum as a child.

Penny Report 9 Nov 2014 07:22

How do you know if she doesn't?

Deborah

Deborah Report 9 Nov 2014 07:16

My mother is not aware of any of this. She was always led to believe the person who adopted her was her mother. She was really her grandmother though. My mother was always very secretive when I was a child. I can't speak to her about this as as I'm not sure if she know's any of this or not.

Has your mother tried accessing her adoption records? Assuming she was adopted over here obviously:
