Can anyone help me understand. I have birth certificate for Martin C M Schneider born 1933 in Poplar mother named Mary Ada formerly Hermitage. I can't find a marriage for Hermitage/Schneider but can find one for Mary Ada Denton to Schneider in 1931 in Poplar. Can't find a birth for Hermitage or Denton. can anyone help please.

Yes it looks like it could be her death as family is now living in Chatham. 1898 is correct year for birth according to marriage certificate but can't get my head around whether she's Denton or Hermitage can't find any births. Thanks

The year of birth could be wrong if she lied on the marriage cert...which doesn't help of course...my grandfather took off three years when he married so when he died the age on his death cert is also 3 years out

what is his fathers name on the birth cert?

Also she could have been born with a completely different surname...her mother married/remarried and took her new fathers name? or there is also adoption?

Yeah that's true I have come across that before. I did find a birth for a Mary Ada Denton in 1906 but that was in Northampton and that doesn't tie in with anywhere else the family have lived and 8 years is a big difference.

It would cost a cert money but wonder if he names his dad on the cert and who the witnesses were

Info on 1911 census is good. Fathers name on her marriage certificate is Thomas, but they are named as Denton. Her husband Christopher Schneider is the correct Schneider, he ties in with the rest of the family. The 2 children they had Martin and Annie mothers maiden name is down as Hermitage. Are you finding easy to source German records.

Think you need that marriage cert for Shneider for its info

Maybe then Thomas changed his surname to Denton for some reason

Mary is down on marriage certificate as a spinster.
