Which year's ER do you have in mind?

Old ER's are searched by address...........not by name

~Looby Loo~ Report 18 Aug 2013 21:57

Hi Reggie, I've just this minute found them on 1911 census, but I can't copy the image, so looking from about 1915 onwards if you can do it.

Thanks,
Lou

I can't, I'm afraid................I was just pointing out to you the limitations.........

To find what happened to them.......use freebmd

The only one who has any chance of being on an ER before the late 1920's is the father.........

Suggest you contact the main public library for the area.........giving the address, and hoping they didn't move...................also that the library staff are able/willing to do lookups

Thank you, Lou................

I hope you get the info you seek...........

So do I.

Still it's what makes this hobby so interesting, you search for ages and ages then suddenly it pops up just when you least expect it to.

It's taken me 3 long years searching for my ancestor in the USA and constantly checking and re=checking the LDS site, and trying to contact the county courthouse for information relating to marriages and deaths with no luck.
Then suddenly I found a death and 2 marriages including images of certificates on LDS site, all for free. I was over the moon and it just goes to show you really do have to keep checking and re-checking.

So Good Luck again to you Reggie.

Regards Lou

OK, found them........

1911 census

Person: BAKER, John Address: 75 Regent St Swan Villiage Woodsetton Near Dudley

BAKER, John Head Married M 37 1874 Moulder Staffs Coesley VIEW
BAKER, Lizzie Wife Married12 years F 36 1875 Staffs Coesley VIEW
BAKER, John Son M 12 1899 School VIEW
BAKER, William Son M 9 1902 School VIEW
BAKER, May Daughter F 4 1907 VIEW
BAKER, Joe Son M 0 (7 MONTHS) 1911

Ignore the 'OX' in red.......it's a notation by an official, and has no relevance to info about birthplaces.

It appears on countless census images, usually where the birthplace has been missed off by the person filling in the form....in fact I had a similar instance just a couple of days ago..................

I had hoped that the children would have second forenames to help with onward searches, but that seems not to have been the case.

Hi Reggie,

Thank you for looking, and for the tip on the 'OX' something I didn't know, so that's a useful bit of info.

Thank you again for your continued help and tips. They are very much appreciated.

Good Luck yourself

Birmingham Electoral rolls are on ancestry searched by name

Midlands, England, Electoral Registers, 1832-1955

Thousands of Birmingham voters left their mark in these election registers.

whether Dudley is included I don't know??

Jonesey

Jonesey Report 22 Aug 2013 10:16

Dudley/Sedgley/Tipton residents were most definitely not included on Birmingham electoral registers.

Hi Jax & Jonesey

Thanks to you both for your comments. I am hoping to be back with ancestry after Christmas if Santa is kind enough to leave me it as a present. :-)

So will take a look on there then.

Thanks again for the info on Dudley/Sedgley/ Tipton Jonesey that's very useful too as I have a lot from those areas too so that will save me quite a bit of search time.

Jax thanks for the tip on Ancestry,

Thanks again to you all for you advice and help, it's very much appreciated.

Regards and good luck to you all

Lou :-)

Hi Reggie,

Sorry not to have gotten back earlier.

His father was John Ernest (info from marriage certificate) married in 1898. On 1901 census it states father was John a Railway Porter and son John is John Edwin.

I think you may need to start again..................who are you actually researching?

How did you work back?

~Looby Loo~

~Looby Loo~ Report 5 Sep 2013 10:44

Thanks Reggie,

Going a generation further back to his father.

John Baker married Isabella Milner Onions this is them on the 1891 Census ( I have their marriage certificate)

1891 Census RG12/2275 Folio 132 Page 29
John head Mech Engineer b
Isabella (Onions) wife
John E son Engine fitter b 1872 Tipton
David A son Engine Fitter b 1873 Tipton
Walter son Engine Fitter b 1876 West Bromwich
Philip son b 1885 Wednesbury
Sydney son b 1886 Smethwick
May daughter b 1889 Birmingham

I have David's Marriage certificate states his occupation is Fitter
I have Sydney's marriage certificate states he's a Tool fitter
John's marriage certificate states he's a Fitter with middle name of Ernest he married Elizabeth Annie Onions. (so far I haven't found any 100% connection to his mother's family)

I found a possible connection to Walter and have followed his family and he had a daughter with the middle name of Milner which is the same as his mother, and thought I must be on the right track and so started to track Walter's brother John and his marriage and family.

Hope this all makes sence, without being on Ancestry now it's been harder to verify.

Lou

OK

So you're tracing the family of John Ernest born 1872

That eliminates the family in Birmingham........so I'll delete the info, to avoid confusion.
