Finally ................ ancestry has uncovered the last column on the 1911 Census

It has taken them much longer than 1911Census or FMP (and hence GR, who use the FMP transcripts)

They have also released a map which is supposed to help you find places ........... but there is word that this does not always work.

I wonder how long it will be before this information thread is RR'd????

GlitterBaby Report 24 Apr 2013 20:55

Brilliant that Ancestry have finally done this.

Off to take a look at a few images.

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 24 Apr 2013 21:02

Just looked at one image and yes the map is out and really needs to be zoomed into to find any address but might be useful to some members

Oh thank you very much. I think they had been getting fed up with me nagging! :)

Joy

Joy Report 24 Apr 2013 22:18

It is nearly as exciting as the time when I first saw the 1911 images :)

No infirmities yet.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 24 Apr 2013 22:27

I haven't really looked on there yet

Evenings are my time for doing my research

Wonder what I will find??

Mind you ............... I did look on 1911Census when they unlocked that column, for my most direct ancestors. So, at least I know my parents, grandparents and even a couple of gt grandparents had no "infirmities"

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 24 Apr 2013 22:50

I was curious as two members of my family had the same apparently inherited medical problem, a mother and daughter, so wanted to see if anything showed against other family members.

I guess it depends if the person completing the form gave the info.

My great grandfather's brother lost his left arm in an accident in 1895 but it wasn't mentioned on the 1911. He still held down a job in a shop so wonder if that was why?

jax Report 24 Apr 2013 23:24

That column only asks if
Deaf or dumb
Totally blind
Lunatic
Imbocile or feeble minded

Other disabilities were not asked for, as far as I can see

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 24 Apr 2013 23:33

Yes, see what you mean jax. I've always just read it as Infirmity column as I've seen things written in there (e.g. "has fits") that don't conform to the numbered options offered.

And the Phantom Reporter strikes again!

f you hadn't noticed, in her opening post Sylvia did mention that these records were also held by GR. She was doing those of us who can't afford record search subs to both sites a favour.

Not a tit-for-tat RR one hopes?

Has anyone worked out when the linked maps were produced/published?

Funny how that post disappeared about the same time as someone else reappeared this morning.

I also thought the wording was more in praise of Genes & its sister FMP rather than praising ancestry.

Stupidity personified

Indeed, the wording was more in praise of Genes & its sister FMP rather than praising ancestry.

I've asked Genes to reinstate the OP as THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT!

Jonesey

Jonesey Report 25 Apr 2013 12:24

If the opening post is reinstated as I believe that it should be then one can only hope that GR takes immediate punitive action against whoever referred it for review.

Such childish behaviour. :-|

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 25 Apr 2013 12:53

Do your search on 1911 census on Ancestry

Click on View Record to left of the name

When the household appears you get view image over to the right and just under that should show a map which you can view.
