the wedding took place in bodmin registery office the groom was 24 and was witnessed by the brides father and sister and the grooms address was the barracks at bodmin now awaiting army records |

I can add that William Marden Jnr (my grandfather) enlisted to the army in London in 1898 and was in the Duke of Cornwalls Light infantry for 26 years and based at Bodmin Barracks. He had South Africa and WW1 medals. We have his discharge paper that gives his year of birth as 1880. We know all about his life after the army but hope to find more from his army records when we get them. |

There were Barracks in Gravesend, so that might have been the reason he was there. |

Thanks very much for all the info about the dcli very useful as for the information on his marriage certificate i cant see as he would give a specific job title like brass finisher as his father occupation i think he would have said he was a labourer or something similar we think there might have been some change of name sometime my father was quite sure that some of williams relatives visited him when he lived in tottenham and that they were located in hoxton once again all new information is very welcome but sorry reggie your information is not very helpful |

we now think we have found our elusive grandpas family, names of family appear to be under the name of martin at 13 felton st hoxton in 1901 census ,1911 census it seems they may have moved to catford any further info would be welcome |

this is what happened william marden changed his name from martin and lied about his age he was born in 1882 not 1880 the rest of the familly seem to have kept their name all william jnrs family are named marden my father and his twin brother were born at 15 seaford road tottenham 1925 in the 1911 census william martin senior was head of the house had 10 children but one had died if anyone has fuerther info would love to hear from you |

jeanette brooks descneded from my great aunt esther martin who was my grandfathers sister my grandfather was william martin who changed his name to marden when he joined the army after giving a false age he was born 1882 camberwell |

after all the detective work thats been done that we are no longer looking for mardens because we know of all family connections named marden because our grandfather changed his name from martin to marden so if anyone has connections to william martin and emma reader married 11th april 1869 we would love to hear from you |
