Welcome to the boards Kenneth
Is it a relly you are seeking in a workhouse?
Give us a name and area and year of birth and someone will look them up for you.

If you look at this site:-
www.workhouses.org
and put the name of the town in the search box for the workhouse you are interested in, then scroll to near the bottom of the page it should tell you where any records that survive for that particular workhouse are kept.
If the person you are looking for was in the workhouse at the time of any census then someone on these boards will be able to look the person up for you if you give a name and approximate year of birth.

Have had this message from Kenneth.
It is a relly I'm looking for. My great grandmother Annie Dewey, I'm not sure of her birth could be around 1875, and her daughter also Annie, birth certificate is Annie Emma Dewey born 19.04.1895, no father named. They were in the Bingham Workhouse in Nottingham. Any info you can find would be brilliant as I can find very little on this side of my family. Thanks.
I have had a look and can find neither of them on any census.
Have to log off now so am leaving it to anyone who may be able to find them.
Will come back in the morning.
Mel

If you got the address from the 1895 bc, then it could be that the mother was admitted to the workhouse to give birth in the infirmary section. Many Workhouses converted to Hospitals at a later date and became incorporated into the NHS.
http://www.workhouses.org.uk/Bingham/
Gives a brief history of Bingham Workhouse, and a link to Nottingham Archive which holds the few records which survive. If they have the Admission and Discharge books, it would give some indication of how long they were staying there, and the destination on discharge. The Workhouse link does include the phrase "Births (1837-1930); etc." so you may be lucky!
A member of GR used to regularly go to Notts Archive and was willing to look up records for others. If you edit your title (edit the first post) to include Notts Archive, she may spot the thread and offer her assistance. The Archivist, if you were to contact them, are likely to charge a fee which she does out of kindness

Don't know! It seems unlijkely that Annie Dewey would travel to Notts to give birth, then back to around Hull, but stranger things have happened!
