Hi K...thanks for the above info. My Dad was looking about earlier and found this William J Dormer in the 1891 Census in London so looks like it is the same one...will notify the family friend I was doing this for to see what he thinks |

1891? The birth place of Martha ties in with Martha Dormer in 1881 |

The death you found in 1906 does look like it should be the right Martha with the right age. The other death for Martha (Dormer) is Wycombe Registration District outside the area that she previously lived. |

If she did marry George Ridgway, there is a death in 1906 for a Martha Ridgway.. Also noticed a death in 1900 for a Martha Dormer so was wondering if either of these was the correct one. Both deaths are in Buckinghamshire. Also cannot find anything in 1891 census for either of them or the son John. I know he joined Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders at Stirling, Scotland in 1891 but not sure if it was before or after the census date. He is not on the 1891 Scotland Census. |

I think this is the couple for the marriage that safc found and James mentioned. There is no sign of a son William John and Joseph is a bricklayer |

The family I posted in 1881 living next door to Martha and William John, include a possible brother of Martha who is listed as Joseph Dormer who is listed as a gamekeeper. |

Hi...I looked at the marriage certificate for William John Dormer...he was married in Stirling on 2nd Oct 1896, and gives his age as 23 and he was a private in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. The cerificate shows father name as Joseph Dormer and mother as Martha Beasley. Certificate shows parents still to be alive in 1896 and father Joseph was a gamekeeper. There is a Joseph Dormer in the 1891 census in Buckinghamshire...aged 51 and born in Marlow in 1840 so was wondering if they were the correct parents. If so was wondering where they were at 1881 census...also 1891 census. |
