Hi Joy KM,
I use this site;
rootsireland.ie
It's pay to view, but cheaper and easier than working around the Irish GRO.

Maria....Re; Cappa. Lodge where Samuel died...This was the home of a Randall Burrows/Boroughs who was the a High Court Magistrate for the area...dont know what the connection was between them ...yet...!!
I would suggest that the info.re John aged 74 that he is the son of Samuel Lomas ...Kilrush...
Samuel and Francis had a son named John ..(probably after named after his father).
Now who the is Samuel M Smith...?
Well there is a Samuel Marshall Smith b 1876 son of Samuel "Triwliy" Smith and Anne Jane Marshall of Ennis ...unless the Census dob/age is incorrect he is the only one to fit the "name". I dont think the name of Samuel "Triwliy" is transcribed correctly either

Maia...Which Harriet are you asking about ...and which Samuel..?
If you mean Harriet Stewart..and Samuel Lomas snr....then she was his daughter... If you mean Samuel J.then that is her brother... All info and connections are there...probably take some time to get your head around it..

Going to try and break down for you Maria what we've found.
Lewis ( this spelling we'll use for ease) married Ann Dunford and named his father as Samuel Lomas.
1851..... Lewis is named as a Cousin to William and Mary POWIS. Williams mother is Harriett born 1783 Suffolk census sates Reyland, however in 1871 Lewis's mother Frances states she was born NAYLAND Suffolk in 1786.... I think Reyland should be Nayland and therefore Francis Lomas and Harriett Powis were sisters... as yet there maiden name is unknown.
We know that Charles Stewart married Harriett Lomas in Kilrush, her birth year is similar to Lewis Lomas.... so most likely she is Lewis's sister. We find Lewis's "sister" Harriett Stewart with her unmarried brother and sister... Mary A Lomas and Samuel John Lomas in the 1901 census..... so these are possibly more siblings for Lewis Lomas.
Samuel Bernard Smith is a nephew to Harriett Stewart (nee Lomas)... now he could be a son from either Harrietts sister or Charles Stewarts sister... yet to confirm this.
Samuel Lomas died in Kilrush in 1858 at the age of 68 so giving him a birth year of C.1790.

Wow - thank you so much for explaining this - I tried to draw a tree last night but it was getting a bit late and I wasn't sure if i understood it fully. Now from having my dad (Peter john Lomas - now deceased) with no living relatives that he knew of and as an only child and my grandmother (Josephine Laura Tunstall) as an only child as far as my dad knew - my family seems to have grown considerably.
Many thanks. I feel that i want to go over to Ireland and have a look at the area where they used to live. xx
