Just in case you want this and haven't found it, I think this could be Anastacia's birth reg:

Births Mar 1902 (>99%)
Lewis Statia Penella M Wolverhampton 6b 623

The 2nd army papers state his previous service had been with 1st Battalion staffs cause of discharge termination of engagement.
1901 census he was in the reserves. I hired a researcher & she went to Kew & got the papers. I think it too much coincidence to be different Joseh Lewis' due to fathers name & both papers stating Coventry as place of birth. reg no 7210 John Lewis 3rd Battalion South Staffs is on top of papers attestation for the reserve division of the militia.

I don't suppose there is a house number for Jamiaca Row on the Army Record?

No dont be silly potty that is too simple for this side of family!! Lol! Bear in mind John Joseph Lewis wife is called Penelope but on Marriage, Death & birth certificates for children she uses variants of Penelope, Penella & Ellen!! Dont ya just love em?? !st marriage Penella, 2nd marriage Penelope, death certificate Penella its definatley her as signed by her daughter Anastacia and all childrens certicifates she is Ellen!!!

Potty Report 6 Nov 2010 17:06

And look how Anastacia's birth is registered! Possibly a combination of a broad Irish accent and not being able to spell!

These Irish really do try us. My greatgrandfather's surname is spelt differently on his marriage cert to the way it is spelt in the church (RC) register and the family's surname is different on every census.

This is clutching at straws but wonder if the Joseph Jones in Jamaica row in 1881 tool maker/tobacconist is a mistranscribe
after all the Joseph Lewis was a blacksmith and tool maker is a metal worker! Im probably stretching the realms of fantasy a little far here with that one!
So im now thinking maybe John Lewis mother was unmarried and wed Joseph and took Lewis surname and that means i will never find him!

I too wondered about Joseph Jones re toolmaker and blacksmith. I did trace him back on the census but couldn't make a connection. Will look again.

Damn, can't find them in 1871 which is when John Joseph should first appear on the census. Margaret might have been a bit old (49) to have had a child in 1868?

I did look on some trade directory to see if i could trace Joseph Lewis in Coventry or Birmingham but had no joy with that either.
