Lovely to have a visitor Robert - is your shell rather hot this time of year or do you get the sea breeze.

Poor little thread is very neglected - they have all vanished.

Happy summer wishes to all who pop by now and then.

Hi

This hot weather is not the time to be doing Family History. Some days it has been too hot to do gardening.

Not really complaining

I went to Iran for my holiday in April. Felt much safer there than I do here. Life for Iranians is still tough.

Went to collect my repeat prescription from the local pharmacy. Not available as system had changed whilst I was on holiday. The new system is a nightmare both for patients and the Pharmacist is annoyed.

As a chronic sufferer with 6 different medicines it was great to know I could collect 2 months supply and then, by ticking a list for the 6 medicines, the Pharmacy would request further prescription from the doctor at the appropriate time.

Now I must ring a call centre and request the same 6 medicines. The call centre advises the doctor and the surgery sends the prescription to the Pharmacy.

The average wait on the telephone has been 20 minutes and I have been cut off 3 times.

The Pharmacy did not have available all the medicines when I went to collect so a second visit necessary.

The scheme is meant to save the NHS money by reducing the ordering of unnecessary medicines. To reduce the workload of GPs.

I will be writing to the Care Commissioning Group responsible for this nightmare along the following lines.

1. Patients only take medicines recommended by the GP. If the medicines are no longer required the GP should remove them from the prescription.

2. If all patients used the repeat prescription service offered by the Pharmacy, they will be guaranteed the medicines they require. If they are responsible for ordering the medicines every month/2 months I can see deaths. A lot of patients are old with failing memories and will fail to get the necessary medicines.

3. The GP still has to sign off the medicines - no reduction in workload.

4. The Pharmacy was always aware of the medicines they required to fulfill repeat prescriptions and could order accordingly. without the certainty shortages occur - I experienced this.

An ill thought out scheme that will lead to deaths. I am incandescent at the lack of forethought.

Hopefully I will be able to report back on a successful reinstatement of the repeat prescription service.

The cats are fine. The vet said they were in peak condition when the had their 6 month checkup.

Hi Arthur - gosh you do lead an exciting life

Glad to know the cats are well

Shadow loves this weather - he is out from early morning & we have to go & get him in - he is 14 now (we believe) and still thinks he is a kitten some times

Funny our Dr has gone to your system - its easier to get prescriptions now - dont have to go to the dr for repeats.

Strange how we are all one country

First day of summer here ............ and it is sunny!

that has been a rare event so far this year :-(

Nice to see you Arthur.

Did you go plant hunting in Iran???

We have to go to our doctor to get repeat prescriptions .......... that ensures that the GP does see a patent and confirms that a medication is required.

Every prescription that I have (except 1) is for 1 year, to be filled at the pharmacy every 3 months. This system doesn't cover of course prescriptions for antibiotics, a medication needed for only a short time, or for an "opioid".

Tylenol 3 (= paracetamol 300 mg with 30 mg codeine + 15 mg caffeine) is my pain medication when all else has failed. After several years of being given prescriptions for smaller amounts, and having to answer numerous questions about how and when I use it, I am now given a script for 90 tablets. That can last me over 6 months depending on how things have been.

I have to go back to the GP to get a new script for that one .............. repeat scripts cannot be given here for an medication containing opioid.

I'll have to see how I get on when I see the GP next week .......... I will want a new prescription for the Tylenol 3, and there has been a great tightening up on opioid prescription since the last time I got one, back in December. All due to the fentanyl drug crisis ......... the BC College of Physicians has issued a directive that doctors should not be prescribing opioids for patients as "easily" as they were, and any doctors who do so are subject to investigation and "punishment"..

That has led to many doctors refusing to prescribe ANY opioids even for patients who are in desperate need of pain relief.

Sylvia

Yes Iran was another plant hunting trip. We may return next year.

I have a blood test every 6 months and see the specialist diabetic nurse to review results. At this time the GP will sign for a further 6 months of medicines or make any necessary changes. This is particularly important for the health of my kidneys.

The new system has a negative impact on me and has no chance of saving money, reducing GP workload and risks putting me in danger if I forget to order my medicines in time. I of course will put a reminder on my laptop and I fortunately still have all my facujlties. Sadly this is not case for a significant number of the people living in the village.

The new system must require the call centre to keep records of my requests or I could simply ring every day and order more. This duplicates the records held at the surgery.

I hope your GP continues to prescribe the medicines you need for quality of life.

Best wishes

Arthur

Wow!!

Congratulations to you and your wife on your 60th Anniversary, Robert. xxx

We have our 50th anniversary next month.

We didn't know what to do, didn't want a big party ............ so we have decided to take a trip, just the 2 of us, in late October. We'll take the train to Toronto and then to Quebec City, stay there for 4 or 5 days, and then come back home on the train. I've never been to QC, although OH has been to a couple of meetings there way back when.

Our daughter and grandson will come to stay for a week around our anniversary, so that will be fun

Yesterday, July 1st, was Canada Day .... celebrating the day the foudning fathers signed the Constitution making Canada a country. That happened 150 years ago ....... so there were big celebrations, firework dispalys, etc all across the country.

We stayed home and celebrated quietly.

Tabitha Report 3 Jul 2017 06:41

Many congratulations Robert did you get a telegram from the Queen?

I hope you have many more happy years together - Diamond Greetings to you and your wife -

Congratulations in advance Sylvia - I have always wanted to go to QC - Heights of Abraham & General Wolfe always fascinated me at school - Golden greetings

We celebrate our 20th next year - 2nd time round for us both so age is against us reaching a big milestone. However we have been together 25 years now a big milestone for us both. My OH is 65 in September I have purchased a Living DNA gift for him with a book. Would have liked to have got him a fast car driving day but the price is way too high for me at the moment.

Hi Tabitha ............

you might reach a higher number than you think!!

Our best friends were 50 (her) and 49 when they married in late 1979.

They were married for almost 34 years before he died in 2013.
