Thank you Kathleen,
I'm grateful for all help.
I have Janet Alice Dodds marriage certificate to my grand father.
Her father was a chair maker !

My Fathers side of the tree is harder because he was Irish.

Normally, all one gets from FreeBMDs transcription of the GRO index is a page full of unpaired brides and grooms. However, the GRO isn't the only place one can buy an m.cert from - one can also buy it from the local rego office where the event occured, and some local ROs have their own indices on-line. (GR probably just place an order with the GRO for you, and charge an ordering fee - I don't know, never having ordered one thru them). Anyway, there's many local indices in the NE that are at least partially on-line, see:
http://www.northeastbmd.org.uk/

What we need here is their link to:
http://www.newcastle.gov.uk/core.nsf/a/dfcdeathshistorical

Your search results
1838 STOREY Alice
1838 ATKINSON Joseph
Marriage venue - St Michael, Newburn
Register No./Entry No.
EMH1/15

Note that this index pairs up the spouses, since their ref is an entry #, not just a register page #. Also, at the local level, each church has its own register, so it's possible to identify the church (and for Newcastle births, the sub-district if you guess that, say, BYK is Byker, LBN is Longbenton etc)

EDIT - FORGOT TO SAY TO SEE REGISTER DETAILS, YOU HAVE TO CLICK ON THE APPLICATION FORM LINK

It must take a great deal of patience and or detective work to come up with these details mgnv.
I looked, obviously in the wrong places, and didn't find

Thanks again

A search on FreeBMD - lets look at the marr Christine iP found for Joseph Atkinson + Alice Storey. We can follow Mrs B's earlier instructions, and find:

Marriages Sep 1838 (>99%)
ATKINSON Joseph Castle Ward 25 195

(Actually, what FreeBMD looks for re spouse is that they're on the same page, so we'ld get the same hit if we looked for Joseph Atkinson with his spouse = Thomas Laidler)

If we click on the page # (=195), we get the info Christine iP posted.
If we click on the rego district (=Castle Ward), we see:

The district Castle Ward is in the county of Northumberland; information about it can be found "here".

Click on the "here" link gives a list of townships and parishes in Castle Ward rego D, and lists

Sub-districts : Gosforth; Newburn; Ponteland; Stamfordham

NB It's easy now to make the entries for the search, but really we wouldn't know if we're looking for Storey or Story, or Dodd or Dodds, etc. We can use wildcards after the first 3 characters, so Stor*y and Dod* would get them all (plus Stornaway and Dodson etc).

Transcriptions on FreeBMD start to thin out in the 1930s, but (especially if you know exactly who and roughly when) you can check the images of the index to find the GRO ref you'ld need for a b.cert up to 1960.
At http://www.freebmd.org.uk/ click on "view images" and enter the info.
Say we're looking for Michael P(hilip) Jagger, b 26/7/1943.
Step by step enter: Births, 1943, qtr=Sep, initial=J, p=174, and there's the rego in Deptford

I'm mightily impressed and at the same time disapointed at my apparent inability to find these results.

Must practise more

David, I'm guessing this will be less disappointing, but if you go to:
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp
you can find a nearby LDS FHC in the centre column, or select several sorts of "Search Records" The "Advanced Search" will get you the 1881 census and the IGI:

Household:
Name Relation Marital Status Gender Age Birthplace Occupation Disability
John ATKINSON Head M Male 38 Newcastle Waterman
Mary A. ATKINSON Wife M Female 33 Newcastle
Alice ATKINSON Daur U Female 12 Newcastle Scholar
Joseph ATKINSON Son Male 10 Newcastle Scholar
John W. ATKINSON Son Male 8 Newcastle Scholar
George ATKINSON Son Male 4 Newcastle
Thomas ATKINSON Son Male 12 m
Source Information:
Dwelling 5 Morrison St
Census Place Byker, Northumberland, England
Family History Library Film 1342223
Public Records Office Reference RG11
Piece / Folio 5066 / 72
Page Number 21

I don't know where Morrison St was, nor Mawson St. These, and Bryson Terr are all that seem to be in this Enumeration District. (I did notice some other Atkinsons and Storeys though.) Bryson Ter was abt 200m S of the modern Warwick St, between Portland Rd and the Ouseburn.
One can find Bryson Ter with coords = 425900, 564900 at:
http://www.old-maps.co.uk/

Here's the IGI example:

Results for: Mary Scott, Northumberland, England, British Isles
Spouse: John Atkinson
Exact Spelling: Off

International Genealogical Index / British Isles - 1
Select records to download - (50 maximum)
1. MARY ANN SCOTT - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Marriage: 24 JUN 1867 All Saints, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, England

Clicking on the hit shows it's an extracted record, rather than a submitted record (the latter are of variable quality, like any post you see on the web).

Source Information:
Batch No.: Dates: Source Call No.: Type: Printout Call No.: Type:
M156066 1865 - 1885 1068971 Film NONE
Sheet:

If you click on the Source Call # (i.e., 1068971) and drill down, you'll see where it was extracted from:

Title Parish registers of All Saints Church, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, 1600-1940
Authors Church of England. All Saints Church (Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland) (Main Author)
Notes Microreproduction of original records housed at the Morpeth Record Office, MOrpeth, Noerthumberland.
Morpeth Record Office No.: EP9/37-38a, 79, 81a-82

and the "view film notes" button at top right gives a long list of LDS FHL films of these registers, including:

Note Location Film
Marriages, 1865-1885. FHL BRITISH Film 1068971

One can rent this film to view at any LDS FHC if one couldn't get to Morpeth.
Search records - Library Catalog - Place search for Newcastle is another route to get this film #.

Finally, lets go back to the marr of Joseph Atkinson + Alice Storey which we found out was at St Michael's Newburn in 1838q3
Now, from the blue bar at top at the LDS site, select Search Records - Record Search Pilot.

[This has the GRO(I) index thru 1958, but NI is excluded after 1922. One can buy certs from:
http://www.groireland.ie/
http://www.groni.gov.uk/index.htm
Actually, if one is happy with uncertified copies of the register images, they're 40% off for Eire.
The only available Irish census that survive (apart from the odd fragment) are 1901 1911
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/
is gradually putting them online - so far, have 1911 for ANT, COR, DON, DOW, DUB, GAL, KER, OFF, WEX.]

What we're after now is the Durham Bishop's transcripts for Newburn 1819-1856 image 419 of 749.. (The BTs were the church's own back-up copy.)
I'm a bit surprised - I did expect the same info I'ld see on a regular m.cert.
Incidentally, re your witness Wm Moore - do you notice he's on half of the entries displayed here. My guess is he's the parish clerk, or some guy who did odd jobs round the church, and picked up tips by acting as a witness.

There is a Morrison Street in Gateshead not too far from the River Tyne in what I think is known as Newburn
