lookig for info on ellen roberts, she was born in llangollen, married george farington, they had 4 children, hilda, blodwen, gladys and a j farrington. my grandfather william was born before they married.
i intrested in ellens family, ie mother, father, siblings.
also any info on children would be a bonus.

When did she marry George and where? If you bought their marriage cert it would give both fathers names and occupations so that you could follow the line backwards with more confidence.

Have you got Ellen's marriage certificate to George? That will give you her fathers name and make it easier to find her on a census before her marriage.

Im afraid they arent showing as Farrington - are we sure of the date/place of birth? When was your grandfather born?

my gandfather was born july 1899,he was born to ellen roberts showing on1901 census as a single mother, this much i know,
i dont know when george farrington came into the picture, dates of children are only a guess

my grandfather name was william albert henry, shows up as albert on census

So this is her in 1901 yes? A charwomen living at Mill Street Square? So if you knew she was alone on the 1901 why did you think the twins were born in 1900?

I could go on guessing backwards but it would be wrong for me to do so!

You need to get the marriage cert - but it doesnt appear to be around or the birth cert of Ellen to prove who her parents are and then work backwards. Ill have another look for the marriage but the births you gave arent coming up and Im wondering if she did in fact get married to Mr Farrington or she married him much later than you believe.

Sorry, Ive looked up to 1920 on freebmd (you can always search that site yourself free) and there is no sign of a Farrington/Roberts marriage). It isnt complete - you may need a pay to view site.

Te Ellens birth cert - there are dozens of Ellen Roberts born that year - and the quarters before and after 1875 - you may want to have a look yourself as I dont know the area well enough to narrow it down to the likely one - though I noticed one born Corwen and that seems to be the reg district on those census images. Sorry I couldnt be of more help. Is there anyway you can get more information from any living relatives to narrow this all down?

Id already searched for that Kath and Id realised it had 2 rs but no luck. As I said, think all Yvonne can do now is look for the birth cert for Ellen - hopefully that one mentioned on freebmd in the same reg district.

Know the feeling - even if I am getting RSI doing this instead and worrying about the pains in my legs!

Local knowledge triumphs again!I first found the Marriage on North Wales BMD in 1917 at St Collen's Llangollen.I then found the equivalent in the GRO Marriage Index,in the July Quarter,Corwen Registration District,Reference is 11b,page 515.I'll tell you what I'll do with you,as it obviously took place in Church,I'll find out the father's names tomorrow for you,at the Rhosymedre Resource Centre of Clwyd FHS,by Looking up the Hayes Marriage Index.

1917! Wow, a long time after Yvonne expected. I wonder if we have another spouse in the shadows for all that time? So was she with George when those children were born? Do you have any of the birth certificates Yvonne?

No Farrington children registered in Corwen 1900-1920 (as so far transcribed -- could have been kids after the marriage who aren't transcribed yet).

But only two Hilda Roberts-s, one of which would seem likely to be Yvonne's:

Couldn't find a twin "J" in either case though.
