Find Ancestors

Trying to find info on my Great Grandfather Joseph George, known as Red Joe, who arrived from England and settled in the Warren district in NSW Australia in the 1860's.

Can you offer a little more info?

He married after arriving in Australia? If so, do you have his marriage cert, and does it give parents' names? If he married before arriving, do you know his wife's name? Any children born in England?

Do you have an approx date of birth? Do you have his death cert? In Australia, it would normally give his parents' names. That info can be used to search for him in the 1861-51-41 censuses in England. I assume what you're looking for is info on his forebears in England.

There are about 4 marriages in the NSW records that could be him, 1876-1884.

And just to be really clear -- George is his surname?


(I'm in Canada, but ancestors were in England before the 1900s, except for when one set of gr-grparents went to Australia and had two kids. ;) I have access to English records and might be able to help.)

Seems a little late for your Joseph to be having kids, maybe. And no marriage to match.

It's definitely Jos, not Jas, btw. The "a" in "Chas" -- "Cha" with an uppercase "s" -- is plainly an "a", and the "o" in "Jos" -- "Jo" with an uppercase "s" -- are completely different.

Looking good. The only roughly matching Joseph in 1861, shown as born in Ripple, is accounted for in 1851, i.e. is not the Joseph son of Richard and Ann.
