could someone help me find the details for a marriage between a James Goff (gough) born Stockland Devon in abt 1842 to Ellen Nudge born 1844 in Ilchester Somerset many thanks Karen

When would they have married ? What census have you got them on together ? Did they have children ? if so, when was the first child born ? Have you looked on FreeBMD and/or Ancestry Marriage Indexes ? BOTH free to search. *Have checked the 1851 & 1861 , can't seem to find him. 1871: This them ?? No marriage on FreeBMD ... so you need to look at the FREE index on Ancestry ... http://www.ancestry(.)co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=8965 .. remove () It will take you straight to marriage indexes. Have you got a child's birth cert ? I can't find a 'Nudge' marriage between 1855 - 1861 ... but haven't looked 1862 onwards. Where did the Nudge name come from ? Elaine ;-)

yes i have my gt grandmas birth cert, it says Matilda goff born 20/6/1876 Northover, Ilchester, Yeovil. fathers name James goff mothers Name Ellen goff formerly Nudge James was a farm labourer, they changed the spelling of goff in 1871 according to my dad but thats all we know

Can't see Ellen on the 1901 ...... so iether she died between 1891 - 1901 - which I can't find a death for ... or she remarried ... i never thought of that, nobody know anything at all abt this side of the family, ny nan never spoke of her family at all

Have searched 1861 again .... for James. Problem is,. can't find any born in Stockland ! Checked 1841 Devon for Stockland and it's NOT listed so ....went back to 1861. i couldnt find stockland either, i havnt looked on the 1861 census for Nudge, but i suppose it could have been mistranscibed

Since Ellen Nudge was still at home on the 1861, I can only assume that the daughter Louise b 1861 was born AFTER the census was taken ..... and obviously Ellen didn't marry till after March 1861 - so that narrows down the search for a marriage - after March 61 !!! That's IF they married ? Elaine ;-)
