Lesley you're a marvel. Yes I do think that the John Coates you found is my John. He was previously listed as a Coach Maker on 1851 census. Looks like the wife with him is his 2nd wife though, given the fact that the 2 x stepchildren living with him don't match anything I've seen before. I'm going to see if I can trace his 1st wife's death now & his 2nd marriage. Thanks again for looking. You're great. Suzy xx

Hi Lesley, Thank you so much for the Rebecca Easterby lookup. Brilliant :~) We already have the 1851 census image as it contained a badly mistranscribed entry - my gg Grandfather. I was rather hoping that the 1841 census would turn up his mother Ann Sarah Stokes/Easterby (Rebecca's daughter). Another disappearing relative!! Alicia :~)
