As you are looking for her mothers maiden name one supposes you know her fathers name. Have you looked for their marriage in parish registers?

Hickey is an IRISH name

There is a 1850 census for Manchester for an 8 year old Ellen Hickey, daughter of Thomas and Bridget. Both parents born in Ireland all the children born in Manchester.
But she is living with her parents in 1860

Thank you all so much I was told there was Italian in the family this didn't make sense to me so I started looking .Mary Ellen Seymore is my grans mother she died when gran was one her mother was Ellen Hickey.who married William Seymore
That's where I am lost so I thought maybe Ellen Hickeys mother's maiden name could help .I agree with the Irish my great grandad Wade married Mary Ellen Seymour he was Catholic and came from Liverpool .

Unless you know that it is Thomas & Bridget I wouldn’t count on it. I found several more Ellen Hickeys living in Manchester and several dying in the 184O,s.

Like Erika, I haven’t found a Seymour/ Hickey marriage.

My grand mother's mother was born in 1858 Seymour her mother's maiden name Hickey

Are you going to tell us why you think Ellen Hickey ever married?

Have you done anything about looking for a record of the alleged marriage?

Do you actually have the birth certificate, because the Census safc found shows Ellen Hickey as unmarried.

Thanks Erika, the address is split on my IPad and I didn’t spot it.

What occupation is given for William on the birth certificate? Please bear in mind that unless William is also on the baptismal register he may be a figment of Ellen’s imagination. Which may explain why we cant find him on the census, so far. Being Catholic it might not be possible to find the baptismal record.

Added. Freebmd have a death for a William Seymour in Manchester in 1863 no age given.
