Thanks Erika. The reason I thought he was a different person is because I couldn't trace him as being born in Huntspill ( which you have) and he's just known as Absolom when baptised which is probably a spelling error. It certainly looks like he's the one. Thank you

How have you proved that the man who died in 1900 is not the one you are researching? Apart from his forename being recorded as AbsAlom? Which is actually the more usual spelling

I've been trying to trace Absolom one of John and Mary's children. He's on the 1841 census, and he was born in 1830. I became confused with an Absolom John Milton who is not the same person at all!! Can anyone trace him after the 1841 census please? I checked the later censuses but couldn't find him. Thank you

Poor Law unions in England and Wales administered poor relief, and "Poor law unions were later used as a basis for the delivery of registration from 1837".
Some of the registration districts were therefore called (Such-and-such) Union at first, and later the word "Union" was dropped.

Erica...the reference to John and Mary and Bridgewater Union. Does that mean before they died in 1849 that they were in the workhouse with their son Henry? I'm not very clear about that reference. Thank you. Glyn

Thank you everyone. So can I clarify that Mary Milton's maiden name is Baker and not Edwards as I thought?

snippet from article on ancestry
On Nov 17, 1846, at about the age of 23, Henry married Tamar Milton, also known as Jane Milton, born about 1825 in Huntspill, Somerset. Jane’s father, as listed on the marriage certificate, was John Milton. Her mother’s name is unknown. At about the age of 16, Jane was living at or near a boarding school in Huntspill, living with a 25-year old named Betsy Cousins and a boy named William Milton, whose age is also given as 15 at the time of the 1841 census. William may be Jane’s brother, but no records have been found to verify that assumption.
Over a period of eleven years from 1850 to 1861, Henry Vearncombe and his wife Jane (Tamar) Milton had 8 children (named below). The family lived in Bridgwater, Somerset. According to census records of 1861, Henry’s occupation was “hauler – iron man” and all of his children were living in 1861. On the 1871 census, Henry and Tamar are living with children Frances, Fanny and Emily.
