This is just a thought, but I am wondering if Edward was in hospital or something similar on the day the 1939 register was done, or abroad, although there is no indication of any family members having connections with overseas.

I think it's more likely that all four children had been evacuated, and any deaths just haven't been picked up by the 1939 people.

Their 1939 records should be automatically opened in 2032, 2033 and 2036 - but that's a long time to wait!

There's an odd thing in the 1939 record on Ancestry.
Looking at the house numbers, 247 Norwich Road is missing - but looking at the household numbers, there isn't a missing one between the Bells (household 289) and the people at 249 Norwich Road (household 290).

There are four closed records where 247 Norwich Road should be - but by household number they should be part of the Bell household.

Could these be the Cartwright children staying with their grandmother's nephew and wife? The household numbers suggest it's a possibility - but the house numbers don't!

Perhaps someone can have a look in case any of those closed records are open on FMP, which is often more up to date than Ancestry.

Just a long shot -

looking at Electoral Rolls on Ancestry, there's someone of the name and age (+/- 1) of Molly's twin, currently living in a retirement property in Bournemouth with spouse.

Ancestry's ERs show them there in 2006-10, but GR's ERs show them still there in 2021.

If this is the right person (and Molly's twin is the only one of that name born 1930-32 in England/Wales) , maybe he would remember where he and his siblings were in 1939

Not that that would help you find them on the Register - unless he could remember the exact address (probably unlikely, as he was only 8) , in which case you might find four closed records there.

Looked at 1939 reg on FMP, seems to stop at 176 Norwich Road, will keep trying.
