They had lots of children.
You can find the details on FreeBMD by searching births, using both parents' surnames. https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
Mabel H E 1914 Myrtle R G 1916 Montague I W 1917 Douglas S - 1918 Ellen 1918 Eveline L 1920 Lilian M M E 1921 Annetta C 1922 Peter H 1924 William B 1926 Charles F 1927 Walter C 1929 Doris Z 1932 Barbara Z 1934

He was indeed a most interesting and principled man. There is a full story of the plight he and his family found themselves in this paper.
'.. high for the humble finances of Montague Channel! t o approach them. It is usually from the poor that the poor are driven to seek assistance, and the opulent empty houses of Kensington being denied them, Montague Channel! and his family took refuge in...' 16 September 1922 - Woman's Dreadnought - London, London, England
They had been living in Kensington when the landlord decided he wanted his property back so evicted the family. They were put on the street and despite begging the Mayor to help them find accommodation they were turned down and eventually put in the workhouse. Montague fought against this as he wanted his family to stay together and offered to be a tenant but this was turned down. Eventually they were allowed to be tenants in the workhouse but all kind of obstacles were put in their way. When the article ends they have been evicted from the workhouse and living with his mother in law but were in the process of being evicted from there. All this was with his young family including new borns. A child died in June 1920 in the workhouse at 7 weeks old because of all the stress put on the mother who could not feed the child.
I have pm'd you.

Steals Milk ; Children Wait at Empty Table. Caught stealing three bottles of milk from doorways in Kensington, Montague Channell declared: "I took the milk for my wife and five children. I cannot see them starve, and I have nothing whatever to give them." 11 January 1921 - Leicester Evening Mail - Leicester, Leicestershire, England
What a desperate situation the family were in with no help from anyone.
