Could someone please look for the emigration records for Margaret McGrath d.o.b c 1884 Glasgow .
I've found her on the 1930 and 1940 U.S .census with husband John McCabe and niece Elizabeth Wright and nephew Francis Wright .
She married McCabe 10/9/1912 in new York .So I'm assuming emigrated c 1910 .
Would be interested if she travelled alone and also who she was going to in the U.S
regards
jean

Not all emigration dates are correct on later census for USA and Canada
I do work for the BHC Canada site on Facebook and often find emigration dates differ from census to census
They do have actual sailing records so we do know the correct one

Hello Rootgatherer, I'm fine thank you how are you ?
Still looking for ancestors as you can see .
the two adopted children Francis and Elizabeth Wright are Margaret's sister Mary Ann Mcgrath's children who married Henry Wright , he died in 1922 so I guess Mary Ann decided to join her sister Margaret in the U.S. Henry's mother was Elizabeth McCluskey who i am still looking for a death for I'm sure there is a very long thread on here somewhere about her and her daughter Mary.

The BHC Canada site covers children who were emigrated to Canada from homes and workhouses in the uk
Many through dr barnardos
The children were sent as indentured servants to farms etc and many were very badly treated
Descendants now are often looking for uk family history of grt grandparent
It’s not a site for general emigration

Sorry for the late replies just now got back to reading them.
Thank you Shirley, I don't think any of my ancestors went to Canada as children unless of course they were with their parents, thankfully.
Maddie ,, thank you so much for all this information most if not all I don't have so lots to be going on with .
As for Mary P Wright I have not been able to find a birth for her on Scotlandspeople or indeed on the 1911 census even just putting her christian name and d.o.b.and the area of Glasgow were her two siblings Francis and Elizabeth were born , assuming they are her siblings .
Argylegran, thank you for re-upping the threads for Elizabeth , I dont know how many years I have been searching for her and her daughter Mary and still no joy .
thanks again to all

Re Mary P Wright 1906-
(don't know which thread it's best suited to, so posting here since she's been mentioned)
You have this record - but in order to post the details for the helpers;
Mary Wright in the New York, U.S., Arriving Passenger and Crew Lists (including Castle Garden and Ellis Island), 1820-1957 Name: Mary Wright Gender: Female Ethnicity/ Nationality: Scottish (Scotish) Marital status: Single Age: 16 Birth Date: abt 1906 Birth Place: Scotland Other Birth Place: Glasgow, Scotland Last Known Residence: Glasgow, Scotland Departure Port: Glasgow, Scotland Arrival Date: 13 Aug 1922 Arrival Port: New York, New York, USA Final Destination: Clarenceville, New York Years in US: Permanently Citizenship Intention: No Hair Colour: Light Brown Eye Colour: Gray Complexion: Fresh Person in Old Country: Mrs Cath Quinn [ sister of Mary Ann, 86 Oxford St, Glasgow ] Person in Old Country Residence: Glasgow, S.s. Person in US: Mrs Annie Livingstone Person in US Relationship: Cousin [ of Mary Ann, 9434 110th St, Clarenceville, NY ] Ship Name: Columbia
Travelling with her mother (relationship according to the travel record) Mary 41, widow, last residence Glasgow, brother (relationship per the travel record) Francis 4, and sister Elizabeth 2.
The two Marys each paid their own passage, and the mother paid for the two younger children.
Mary Ann married Henry Wright in 1912 , so Mary junior may not be the daughter of Henry - or maybe not of either Mary or Henry; maybe some other relation.
There's a big age gap between young Mary and Francis, if they're siblings - though not impossible.
MCGRATH MARY ANNE WRIGHT HENRY 1912 644/15 78 Hutchesontown
IF young Mary was Mary Ann's daughter before marriage - there were three Mary McGraths born in Glasgow in 1906 - one of them in Camlachie, which I seem to remember is relevant to your family.
MCGRATH MARY F 1906 644/2 513 Camlachie
EDIT: BUT that's not your Mary. From the 1911 census and then marriages on SP, her parents were Peter McGrath and Mary McCourt.
The other two Mary McGraths born in 1906 in Glasgow were born in Anderston, and Govan.

I wonder if I could ask another favour please.
I've found on Familysearch the Petition for Naturalization for John joseph McCabe in 1915 one of the witnesses was a John McMenamin residing at 2355, Nth Woodstock st, Pennsylvania , but I can't find him on a passenger list .
I'm curious to find out who he is only because I have found on Scotlandspeople a marriage for a John McMenamin to a Mary Wright in 1903 in Anderston and I'm wondering if she is any relation to my Wright family . I don't want to use my credits looking at the marriage if its not her ,
thank you

From that record, for our info:
John Joseph McCabe was born in Kilnaleck, Ireland on 12 June 1880, and his wife was Margaret, age 31, born Glasgow. They arrived in New York on 15 Feb 1910, on board the ship "Califronia", having left Greenock on 5 Feb 1910.
John McMenamin was a boiler maker.
This seems to be the man in question:
John Mcmenamin in the 1920 United States Federal Census Name: John Mcmenamin [John Mc Menamin] Age: 54 Birth Year: abt 1866 Birthplace: Ireland <<<<<<<<<<<<< Home in 1920: Philadelphia Ward 28, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania House Number: 2355 North Woodstock Street <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Residence Date: 1920 Race: White Gender: Male Immigration Year: 1893 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Relation to Head of House: Head Marital Status: Married Spouse's Name: Rose Mcmenamin Father's Birthplace: Ireland Mother's Birthplace: Ireland Native Tongue: English Able to Speak English: Yes Occupation: Boiler Maker <<<<<<<<<<<<< Industry: Navy Yard Employment Field: Wage or Salary Home Owned or Rented: Owned Home Free or Mortgaged: Mortgaged Naturalization Status: Naturalized Able to read: Yes Able to Write: Yes Neighbors: Household Members Age Relationship John Mcmenamin 54 Head Rose Mcmenamin 45 Wife - Ireland
?? Rose McArdle in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S., Marriage Index, 1885-1951 Name: Rose McArdle Gender: Female Spouse: John McMenamin Spouse Gender: Male Marriage Place: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States Marriage Year: 1912 Marriage License Number: 275983 Digital GSU Number: 4141890
So - presumably not the man who married in Anderston.
