Find Ancestors

Hello everyone,

At the end of last year I set myself the rather arduous task of mapping my husband's family tree alongside my own. Little did I know how illusive they would be!

So I have a swath of pictures of the Price family (my husbands great-grandmothers family), and I know they lived around the Knighton/Radnorshire area for much of the children's lives, and potentially also Herefordshire.

So this is what I know so far:

Head: William H Price (I think - aboyt 60% certainty)
Wife: Possibly Louise (maybe 20% certainty)
Children:
- Phyllis R (b. 1912 d.1999) (100%)
- William (b. 1922) (90%)
- Jim (possibly John(?)) (b. around 1900) (70%)
- Doris (b. around 1914) (70%)
- Bert (possibly albert or herbet?)
- Hector

There also may have been a Gwen and Edna in the household as well (brought up as siblings...)

What I'm really hoping to find out is the following:
-Definite name, birth and death of Head
-Definite name, birth and death of wife
-Definite name and birth of Bert and Hector

I've been looking at census records but really struggling to find anything concrete even though at least 2 of the children should have been born by 1911.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Start with what you know - your husband’s birth - and work back from that, carefully checking every piece of info

OR..as you say 100% re Phyllis use her as a base

Her birth is on freebmd with MMN RICHARDS - so look for siblings’ births and parents’ marriage

You can’t usefully search censuses until you have accurate BMD info

Any of Phyllis's siblings born pre-1911 should be looked-for on the GRO site, which includes MMN

Doris’s birth is on freebmd in 1914.

mmn only shows from Q3 1911 onwards (although they appear to be attempting to go further back)

You will need to register with the site but then it's free to use. A bit clunky as you have to select year and then can only go 2 years either side of that at a time and also do male and female separately. Useful that it gives full first names.

There are possibly a number of other Price /Richards marriages in the area, so some of the births may not all be the same family

Ancestry suggests this is Lucy in 1901 - but can't be, as she was married by then (assuming the 1899 marriage is the right couple.).

You see my problem now with finding them on the 1901 and 1911 census - they should have been married by then but I can't seem to find the right record.

The marriage was posted by ArgyllGran at 23:08 and 1911 census info has been posted.

In 1911, they say they had produced 5 children ,of whom 3 had died

We haven't found them together in 1901. Nor Henry on his own, as far as I can see. That Lucy Richards in 1901 may or may not be the right person - though shouldn't be.


You say that her husband is William H Price.

Where did you find that, please? Is that on the photos?

He's Henry at marriage, in 1911, and in 1939. No mention of William.
