Find Ancestors

Stanley Smith lived at 10 Back Street Luton in 1905 when he was sentenced to 5 years at reform school.
My belief is that his mother was Mary Ann Smith, formerly Nightingale, born Pattishall 1869, but unfortunately I am struggling to confirm.
I'd like to confirm who he belongs to and where he ended up after reform school.

Solving this little mystery might be a tall order but if there are any clues/pointers I'd really appreciate them.

This is certainly helpful. The case of the stolen cheque could easily be him but it adds confusion to the question of age. Stanley Smith of Back Street was in court in May 1905 accused of stealing spectacles and reported to be 11, but in August 1905 he is in court accused of stealing socks, reported to be 10yrs old.
I am inclined to believe he was born 1894 in Luton (there are 2 other stanleys born a year or 2 before and after but I believe they die early on in life).

How did you come to pick out the Court records for this particular individual?

That's the biggest mystery of all: I don't believe they were officially married, I cannot find any trace. In 1911 she is on the census as Smith and 'completed years of marriage' box shows 10. But by this time she is living with Frederick Roe, plus Stanley is more than 10yrs old by then. Even going back beyond 10yrs I cannot find a matching Nightingale/Smith marriage

I believe he is connected because he lives with the Smiths at Back Street. I found him on the newspaper archive records for that address. Plus 1911 cebsus says Mary Ann had other children who were not present on census day

She's with her Nightingale grandparents Paul and Sarah in 1901; a boarder in Northampton in 1911, and died unmarried in Northampton in 1972.

The FMP transcription of 1911, posted earlier by safc, wrongly lists the children Ada, Lily Maud, and Rose May as Wilson.

Mary Ann has had 8 children, of whom 3 have died.

The five survivors are obviously Ada, Lily, Annie and Rose - plus Stanley?
