Hi
I have returned to genesreunited during lockdown after a period away. I am researching a different branch of my family and I have found approx. 10 members who have useful info no doubt on people I am researching but when I have politely attempted to send them messages, nobody has replied. It is very frustrating. How does the procedure work? The messages I sent are still showing as green envelopes. Does this mean the messages have not been read because the people have not accessed the genesreunited website? Do these people not also receive e-mails advising them of messages received? Please advise.
Regards
Howard

If they’ve changed emails since they registered, they won’t be notified. If they’ve died since they registered, they won’t hear anything Closed green envelopes mean unopened. Hardly anyone who registered in the early days of this site now bothers with it.
Bear in mind that people often just add names to their trees without actually researching them
You’re better off doing your own - careful - research

OK ErikaH
Many thanks for your offer of help. One of my frustrations regarding non-response by other members concerns my ancestor James Pickford-born Stockport around 1820 as per the 1861 census. I know that several members have Stockport Pickfords in their trees including this man from Stockport and dating back to early 1700.
I think I mentioned that I can no longer access familysearch.org on my computer and as this date is pre-1837 presumably I now have to access parish records to try to trace back further? Is there any way of doing this during lockdown or of tracing back further on this line?
Regards
Howard

Unlikely that he has Grandchildren !! The names above are at the top of a census page. Going back to the previous page shows these people with -

EDIT - later results show this is not the right man after more info. from poster.

Thanks for all your amazing and fast research. In answer to greyghost's and ArgyllGran's queries re non-access to familysearch.org, I used to be able to access this website several years ago and I have a user name and password which appear to be still valid but when I try to access the website, my user name seems to be recognised but I just get a blank screen with hourglasses going around which do not stop. I have also tried to create a new account but I get the same problem, Could it be that I am on a version of windows now -ie 8.1-which is not compatible with their website?

Hi Greyghost
Re James Pickford
I am sure that your census record found from 1841 relates to the James Pickford I am interested in. However, I don't think that your 1851 and 1861 census records relate to the same person. My ancestor was living at 98 Higher Hillgate, Stockport with wife Mary and children in the 1861 census. Thanks for all your work nonetheless.
Regards
Howard

Don't assume that because people have a name in a GR tree that they actually know anything else.
If you'd posted the 1861 info, people would have had a factual basis on which to work
Name: James Pickford Age: 41 Estimated birth year: 1820 Relation: Head Spouse's name: Mary Pickford Gender: Male Where born: Stockport, Cheshire, England Civil Parish: Stockport Ecclesiastical parish: St Thomas Town: Stockport County/Island: Cheshire Country: England Registration district: Stockport Sub-registration district: Stockport First ED, institution, or vessel: 16 Household schedule number: 56 Piece: 2566 Folio: 35 Page Number: 9 Household Members: Name Age James Pickford 41 Mary Pickford 38....born Stockport William Pickford 16 Sarah Pickford 11 James Pickford 8 Joseph Pickford 7 Mary Pickford 1
