Thanks for that.
The marriage certificate is from Scotland's People. The link is here:

There is also the census from 1871 from Hawick, Scotland, with Thomas McDonald at home with this father William and siblings. It also has some places of birth on it that I am having difficulty reading. Any ideas?

Thanks so much! I didn't know about the settings, so that's very kind to download them yourself. Great, so it looks like Thomas McDonald's wife's name was Margaret Judge? And Thomas was born in Kirkudbrightshire?

That's great to find out about the other siblings, Peter, Thomas, Neil and Arthur.

(a bit late in the day for 'Thread', lol, but below...

23 April 1874 - Southern Reporter - Selkirk, Selkirkshire, Scotland

Marriage
Thomas M'Donald, quarryman, to Maria Haynes, daughter of the late Mr. Martin Haynes, labourer.

(looking round on later Census, things Overhaugh Street, seems to be a few McDonalds about, if they relate in family. Even into 1920's with a few 'fights' according to Newspapers, lol)
