I am trying to locate possible siblings of my mum. She was born to Kathleen Brenda Saunders in Devon in 1942 and placed up for adoption after 6 weeks. Apparently Kathleen was a nurse during the war over from Wales. About 45 years later my mum successfully traced her mum, who was known as Brenda, sadly after the reunion my mum was rejected a second time as Brenda was not happy to let out the secret of her pass. Despite meeting her several times over the ten years before Brenda died it was always on Brenda’s terms and nothing was spoken about the past apart from the fact her Dad was a Scottish service man, unsure of whether he was aware of my mums existence. After Brenda’s death in 1993 my mum received a call from her Uncle Norman, Brenda’s eldest brother. The sad truth was they were always aware of Brenda’s business and knew about my mum along time before my mum found her. My mum had a relationship with the extended family after Brenda’s death but questions were still unanswered because my mum was far too polite and scared of losing her real mum completely to ask the questions. The story goes that there were at least three babies born to Kathleen Brenda Saunders, with the possibility they were all named Jennifer but with different spellings, my mum is Jenifer. How true this is we do not know but Brenda’s sisiter is adamant she saw three birth certificates when going through her stuff. Sadly most of the extended family have now passed on and with my mum now in her late seventies she feels time is running out to find out the truth. If anyone knew Kathleen during 1930’s or 1940’s or thinks they maybe connected in anyway we would love to find out more. |

Could it be that Kathleen had three birth registrations for th esame child if she was adopted and they kept getting the spelling wrong? |

Kathleen is on the 1939 at Woodside Nursing home in Plymouth so do you know if she stayed in Devon or not? |

If that was the case Mel, I don't think there would be three certificates even if there were three registrations. |

Did Kathleen Brenda ever marry as I can't find a death in the name Saunders in 1993? |

Have you thought of following up on the lives of any of the other nurses who were working at the same nursing home in Plymouth with Kathleen in 1939? Some of them were probably friends who might have kept in touch with Kathleen, although this is a long shot as it is all so long ago. |

The DOB should be on 1939. That could used as a search tool in trying to find her death, unless Kerry can provide the name |

Thanks for the replies gosh you were quicker then us ?? yes she married in 1949 to ryzyc and died in 1993. Sadly despite her telling my mum that one day she would see us grandchildren right (despite not wanting us on any visits) the will was taken care of by her family and as my mum never had anything from her in life she wasn’t interested. It’s all here say with regards to an other children and yes they could have been born anywhere. My mum got her adoptive record hence how we found her mum originally before the wonderful internet we went to Llandudno and spent days looking through records and I remember walking the cemetery’s and by pure look we knocked on a door which was listed and the great aunt still lived there and pointed us in the right direction thinking my mum was a family friend. I said she was too polite worried she was opening a can of worms. In hindsight she should have just said who she was! Thank you again everyone x |
