I did see that entry, wife is recorded as Kate, and her name is Catherine, they did live at 75 Tonna Road.

On the 1939 register (posted above) Thomas is shown as widowed (confirming his wife died before 1939).

There is no Kate on the register with him (there is someone living with him, but it is a closed record so no details are available) . Do you mean you've seen him with Kate on a different record? Kate is a shortened version of Catherine.

Hi, that is not the entry I was looking at and now I cant find it. I do know from one of the Granddaughters that Catherine died at 48 or 49, which would make Thomas a widow in 1939 if we have the correct DOB.

75 Tonna Road is definatly the correct address.

It may have been one of his children living with him, I dont know. Or a lodger, after wife died.

I am speaking to another one of his few living grandchildren tomorrow, she may be able to tell me something. There are only 3 left, all in their 80's, spoke to 2 of them today, none of them know anything about their grandparents. All I really want to know is their DOB, date of marriage and Date of death. Will see what tomorrow brings. I am trying to get as much information as I can but the family just don't seem to know. I really do appreciate your help at GR.

Since I first wrote in May this year, am still struggling with my Great Grandparents Thomas Richards and Catherine Richards nee Jones.

I know Thomas was born 28 May 1877, Aberdare, Wales, and I now know for sure that your post 15th May is his death entry. GRO 8b. Page 19. Family bible shows year of death 1948, written by my Grandfather.

Have got them both on 1909, 1911 and Thomas only on 1939 census. Catherine died about 1930.

Without firm DOB for Catherine and details of her parents it's been difficult to find a death entry for her, or a birth entry.

I ordered their marriage certificate in the hope that it would give me their parents details and help me with completing this part of my tree.

The marriage certificate, GRO 11a Page 1037 shows;

Are you able to give any pointers as to what to do now or where to look please.

Most of the family were coal miners, marriage certificate says haulier, I think that means a coal miner who works above ground rather that underground.

That is marvellous, thank you so much. I couldn't see how to get the full address from the census. Funny thing is that I have seen those above census, and put them to one side because I couldnt prove it, as it did not show the full address.

I noticed no David Richards, or his wife and any other children, if there were any on the Barry Road one. I don't have a DOB or name of spouse for David. Only what is on the marriage certificate.

I don't think that's the correct marriage for Catherine's parents. Birth reg shows mmn Humphreys.
