EDIT - no, can't be, your OP says he registered Emma's birth in 1859.
(No proof required though). will leave as a thought.

The 1851 census only shows 2 Isaac Prossers of the right age +/- 2 years to be this death.

One is "yours" with parents in Abergavenny 1851 aged 16 and a 17 year old Isaac an Iron Stone Miner ,b Bristol in Llanwenarth Ultra, Abergavenny

Name: Age at Death (in years):
PROSSER, ISAAC 32 Order
GRO Reference: 1855 D Quarter in MONMOUTH Volume 11A Page 21

---------------------
This I suspect to be the b Bristol one. Original states pob to be Winterbourne, Glos.
(Winterbourne is on the Northern fringe of Britol according to wikipedia)

greyghost - on Emma's birth certificate Isaac is not just named as the father he is the person who registered the birth in 1859 so not the death in 1855.

Unfortunately the 1871 street name is fairly illegible but I think it says Victoria Street so that workhouse record looks right, presumably the hospital section. She was a laundres so probably prone to infections such as bronchitis. The Robert (nephew) is the son of Isaac's brother James.

in both 81 & 91 they are living at 52 Merthyr Street

I have not got Harriet's death certificate but I think the death in 1898 is the right one.

Thanks for the intro to that newspaper Chris. I have not seen it before

I wonder if the death in the Bridgewater district in 1860 age 34 could be my isaac. I had not thought of looking elsewhere before. (more experienced now then when I was last looking).

Methinks it might be worth sending for that one.

Edit - no just found the probate matching that one and he was a master mariner

You may well be right about the death but -

many births registered after Father dies, left etc but still in his name. Looked much better than Illegitimate and who's to say who actually registered a birth - I don't think any proof was required !

However, have at last found the 1861 census, badly written and therefore transcribed wrongly. Harriet does say here she is married. Posting for info, you say you have Emma on all census, so must have this one

Thanks Chris. I am fairly certain that is the right James. I thought I found the marriage somewhere. Must check through my disorderly notes again!

It is Isaac who has been mainly bugging me for some time as he would be my gg grandfather.

I did wonder if the Harriet Jane who died age 2 in the ne of England was any connection.

Greyghost. Yes I did have that census thanks but had not written down the address.
