Well what about this.
John Hobbs mum nee Huntley Bradford Wiltshire j qtr 1870 V05a P 135 bap by mary ann and Alfred hobbs.
Alfred Hobbs 25 dad Job married 26/6/1864 to Mary Ann Hantty dad William Huntley. They also had Mary Jane 1868 Caroline 1866 in 1871 they are visiting Thomas Gerrish who married Ann Hobbs born 1823 her mum was Mary Hobbs 1795.
Mary Jane Hobbs baptised by Alfred and Mary Ann of WINE St (same address for Nimrod Hunt mentioned above).
On baptism for John in 1870 they were at Wine street.
If John Holloway 1870 is actually John Hobbs then Mary Ann wasn't free to marry Edwin/Edward!!
No sign of Alfred 1871 but 1881 he is a lodger on his own but married. Can't find Mary Ann or John Hobbs in 1871.

(Hobbs/Huntley Births on above)
(might be below!)
02 June 1883 - Wiltshire Times and Trowbridge Advertiser - Trowbridge
A Mother And Her Ungrateful Sons. Alfred Hobbs and Simon Hobbs were summoned to show cause as to why they should not contribute to the support of their aged mother, Mary Hobbs, who was chargeable to the Guardians of the Union. Mr. A. Beavan, clerk to the Board, stated that it was the worst case he had ever known, and the sons had declared that "rather than pay anything to their mother they would see her in h- " (shame). The whole family had been an expense to the union in former years, and had shown themselves most ungrateful for the help they received....

Sorry Chris and Mary, I meant since you told me all that extra info, and AustinQ that I found Edwin/ Edward. Not that I’d found him before. I couldn’t trace him. However, you’re right about John Holloway 1841 as he’s Edwin’s brother, but then Edwin has a son called John!!! The names John, Edward, and George keep reoccurring in the family. I also discovered that the surname was mis spelt in different ways on the censuses, so that doesn’t help either. I found two Edward Holloway’s in Bristol area who could be the one in question, one died in 1907 the other in 1915. I did manage with your help to find Edwin on 1861 1871 1881 and 1891 census. That’s all so far but without your help I wouldn’t have got so far. There is Edwin Holloway marrying Mary Ann Ridler in Gloucester district in 1866, so I wonder if this is his wife not the other ones mentioned? Thanks again for the help you’ve given me. Edwin is missing no longer

No sorry Chris I missed that. I was a bit confused about the Hobbs connection. The family is definitely Holloway not Hobbs. It’s spelt in various ways on the census Holloway, Hollaway, Holdaway..and apart from Edwin/ Edward they lived in Bratton Westbury. I know that’s not very far from Bradford on Avon but I don’t think the Hobbs and Huntley connection is correct. Thank you for trying Glyn

Glyn, I think you need to read back, perhaps take some time to digest...
(Mary Huntley/Hobbs probably had a better life with Edward/Edwin Holloway, by the looks of things!)

Mary, wondering if this is Edward and Mary in 1871. Their place of birth is out, but the ages are right and Edward is a farm labourer as in 1881:
1871 England, Wales & Scotland Census Transcription Hanham Road, Bitton, Keynsham, Gloucestershire, England
Edward Holloway Lodger - Male 24 1847 Farmer's labourer Somerset, England Mary Holloway Wife - Female 27 1844 - Somerset, England John Holloway Son - Male 1 1870 - Somerset, England
