I have found all details until 1903 birth, marriage and births of children Sarah Ann 1898' Thomas 1900' Elizabeth 1903. Then nothing about what happened to them only that my grandmother Elizabeth was adopted. |

If they remained in Scotland, you need to use Scotlandspeople which is accessed by buying credits. |

You've said Elizabeth was adopted but that may have been a private arrangement. |

Could this be Samuel? Do you have his date of birth? |

For reference, this is the family in 1901. |

Yes yes and yes, thank you so much for this info :) I have seen the 1901 census but the rest is all new to me. May I ask on which site you found these details? |

Have you looked at the 1911 census on SP? There's a Thomas Hastie aged 11 and a Sarah Hastie aged 34 on the same page in Elderslie. Sorry don't have credits to check if it's your Thomas and Sarah. |

Just got a copy of the registration of Sarah Ann's Death. It is definitely her:) on Scotlands People. I was not putting a late enough date nor the right place. |

Could either of these be the death of Samuel. The first would make a birth year of c1867 and the second c1872. Age only as accurate as person giving the information. |

Have you followed through the children to marriage to see if Samuel is noted as deceased? |

Quite difficult to follow the children as they have fairly common names. When searching SP for deaths you can put in the mother's maiden name to narrow the search but I'm not getting anything for Thomas or Sarah Ann. That's why I was asking if Elizabeth's surname was changed when she was adopted. Thomas and Sarah Ann may have been known by a different surname. |

Jeanette, have you followed the Mary J. Evans and Robert Evans from the 1901 census please? Just wondering if Mary J married and took in Thomas or Sarah? It would help if you gave us all the details from that 1956 death certificate including the parents' names just in case Robert and Mary J returned to England and perhaps the missing niece and nephew followed them. |

Was this another child of Samuel and Sarah Ann please? District is the same as the Thomas and Sarah that I've pointed out on the 1911 census. |

Ok. I'm pretty sure that this is your Grandma's family in 1911. With 2 more children that you have mentioned. I think you really need to look at that to see if Sarah Ann is married or widowed. That may narrow a death date for Samuel. |
