Trying to find birth details of Dorothy Iris James. She was born in Plymouth in 1924 and married Albert Henry Cull in 1948. Can't find a birth as I believe she may have been adopted. Is there any way records exist of adoptions/ or would her marriage certificate state he "parents" biological or adoptive. Thanks guys!! |

If that was her adopted name then the marriage cert will name her adopted father |

I don't think adoptions started until 1929 unless it was a private adoption. Are you certain she was born in Plymouth? |

I thought that too Malyon when I posted that birth earlier as it tie in with the DOB given on the death I posted. Only snag is, I can't see that couple on the 1939 register to see if there is a closed record with them. |

I think if I was Kevin, I would be buying that birth certificate to see who the Mum was and then try to trace the Mum. Without her name it is very difficult for us to find a possible marriage for her. It may even be the case that she never married but lived with the father of her daughter who was then known by his surname. |

The son of Dorothy and Albert Cull knew his mother was adopted and "thinks" she was Dorothy Jones- could that possibly be the J of Dorothy I J James?? |

As Sylvia has said, the marriage certificate may give Dorothy's name in full and possibly a father's name either real or adopted. It may then help to trace them on the 1939 register although Dorothy's record is probably still closed. |
