I'm looking for the birth of Charles Henry STONER.
His death shows Charles Henry STONER 4Q1978 Surrey SW with dofb 29/9/1902.
He married Elizabeth J FRENCH as Charles H STONER in 1Q1930 Brighton.
1939 Register (using the image not the transcription which is confused) also has 29/9/1902. I'm told the address was in Chester Terrace, Brighton.
I'm one-naming so reluctant to buy his m/c which may or may not help.

Interesting ...... there does not seem to be the birth of a Charles Henry (or H) in 1902, nor is there a Charles Henry born in Sussex or just England on the 1911 Census
The closest seems to be the following, but he was born in ca 1901
1911 Census
Name: Charles Stoner Age in 1911: 10 Estimated birth year: abt 1901 Relation to Head: Son Gender: Male Birth Place: Brighton, Sussex Civil Parish: Brighton Search Photos: Search for 'Brighton' in the UK City, Town and Village Photos collection County/Island: Sussex Country: England Street address: 72 Princes Rd Brighton Sussex Occupation: school Registration district: Brighton Registration District Number: 79 Sub-registration district: West Brighton ED, institution, or vessel: 8 Household schedule number: 81 Piece: 5128
Albert Stoner 33 Martha Stoner 34 William Stoner 11 Charles Stoner 10 Albert Stoner 8 Margaret Stoner 4/12
1901 Census
Name: Charles Stoner Age: 1/12 Estimated birth year: abt 1901 Relation to Head: Son Gender: Male Father: Albert Stoner Mother: Martha Stoner Birth Place: Brighton, Sussex, England Civil Parish: Brighton Search Photos: Search for 'Brighton' in the UK City, Town and Village Photos collection Ecclesiastical parish: Brighton St Martin County/Island: Sussex Country: England
Registration district: Brighton Sub-registration district: West Brighton ED, institution, or vessel: 01
Piece: 928 Folio: 17 Page Number: 26 Household schedule number: 182
Albert Stoner 23 Martha Stoner 23 William Stoner 1 Charles Stoner 1/12 Frederick Stoner 20
The 1901 Census was taken on the night of 31 March 1901, and so that child was probably born late February or early March

I wonder if he knocked a couple of years off his age??????

However, I'm afraid that you will have to get his marriage certificate to get his father's name and occupation. Plus the witnesses might also help

The Henry Charles Stoner died in 1937. And the Charles 1/12 in 1901 was Charles Thomas 1/3/1901, death 11/1986.
At least I've stablished that the 1939 transcription is rubbish. That helped. I've been in touch with a couple of grandchildren on genesre without any progress.
I don't know his parents' names, or where he was born - that would be too easy!
So it may have to join the unsolved, awaiting inspiration, pile.
Thanks for your time. Maybe someone else would like the challenge.

Yes, they are Elizabeth Jane French's 1911 and death entries.
And just one child, Basil Henry, shown on the the transcription with his mother's date of birth. I managed to allocate the other fourteen 'French' births to different families.

This is what the 1939 record actually looks like:-
Elizabeth J Stoner 29 Sep 1902 Female - Married 364 1 Basil A Stoner 23 Sep 1910 Male Unpaid Domestic Duties Married 364 2 Ronald Edwards 12 Sep 1882 Male At School - 364 5
This has obviously been mistranscribed as Elizabeth has Charles' date of birth and son Basil, whose record should be closed has his mothers date of birth.
Ronald Edwards is also an error as it states he was born in 1882 and yet he is still at school?

IF Elizabeth was born in 1910, and Charles Henry was really born in 1900 ............. then that is one of the most common reasons for someone to change their age to make the difference look smaller :-D

Charles is at the Brighton address!
The actual image for the 1939 shows ...............
Charles H Stoner 29 Sep 1902 Male ---- Elizabeth J Stoner 23 Sep 1910 Female Unpaid Domestic Duties
Address:- 102 ditto ........
I can't see the address of the street as you cannot go back one page, but the transcript shows Chester Terrace
The heading to the transcript says Stoner Household (3 names)
There are 3 blocked names (people under age), then the next household (who also live at the same address); the first person there was Minnie H A (cannot read surname) born 1909, domestic servant and she is also shown as Occupant no. 1.
The interesting thing is that Elizabeth's name is crossed out in a pinkish-red pencil and the note "see page 35" added in the far right column. I do not know what that means or where to look
Note:- there are often mistakes between the image and the transcript because each COLUMN was transcribed by a different person, and then it was all put together, so it could be easy to slip up or down a line.

The line is right through Elizabeth's row but above the writing so may just be splitting the page, for whatever reason.
As mentioned above, the image has Charles as 1 in household 364. Elizabeth is 2. Basil is 3 (although blacked out he's in the transcription because he has his mother's age) then two still unknowns. I'm told Ronald Edwards is adjacent in the transcription but eight pages away on page 36 of the original - not even on the pink page 35!
