Not closed? The only way to show a thread is ‘closed’ is for the OP ie you, to mark it as answered. But that doesn’t stop other people still adding comments.

I noticed this was not closed. Born Charles Henry HUDSON in 1902, his mother married Frank STONER in 1908. http://www.stoner.org.uk/stoner2008/Fg2h.html#BNF104

Thanks for the thought but there were 1500 plus Stoners in the 1901 census, half of them in Sussex. That CHarles Hy and William G both died in WWI.

The line is right through Elizabeth's row but above the writing so may just be splitting the page, for whatever reason.

As mentioned above, the image has Charles as 1 in household 364. Elizabeth is 2. Basil is 3 (although blacked out he's in the transcription because he has his mother's age) then two still unknowns. I'm told Ronald Edwards is adjacent in the transcription but eight pages away on page 36 of the original - not even on the pink page 35!

Charles is at the Brighton address!

The actual image for the 1939 shows ...............

Charles H Stoner 29 Sep 1902 Male ----
Elizabeth J Stoner 23 Sep 1910 Female Unpaid Domestic Duties

Address:- 102 ditto ........

I can't see the address of the street as you cannot go back one page, but the transcript shows Chester Terrace

The heading to the transcript says Stoner Household (3 names)

There are 3 blocked names (people under age), then the next household (who also live at the same address); the first person there was Minnie H A (cannot read surname) born 1909, domestic servant and she is also shown as Occupant no. 1.

The interesting thing is that Elizabeth's name is crossed out in a pinkish-red pencil and the note "see page 35" added in the far right column. I do not know what that means or where to look

Note:- there are often mistakes between the image and the transcript because each COLUMN was transcribed by a different person, and then it was all put together, so it could be easy to slip up or down a line.

IF Elizabeth was born in 1910, and Charles Henry was really born in 1900 ............. then that is one of the most common reasons for someone to change their age to make the difference look smaller :-D

so where is Charles on the 1939 could he be serving in the war

Catherine

Catherine Report 30 Aug 2016 22:37

This is what the 1939 record actually looks like:-

Elizabeth J Stoner 29 Sep 1902 Female - Married 364 1
Basil A Stoner 23 Sep 1910 Male Unpaid Domestic Duties Married 364 2
Ronald Edwards 12 Sep 1882 Male At School - 364 5

This has obviously been mistranscribed as Elizabeth has Charles' date of birth and son Basil, whose record should be closed has his mothers date of birth.

Ronald Edwards is also an error as it states he was born in 1882 and yet he is still at school?

Yes, they are Elizabeth Jane French's 1911 and death entries.

And just one child, Basil Henry, shown on the the transcription with his mother's date of birth. I managed to allocate the other fourteen 'French' births to different families.

malyon

malyon Report 30 Aug 2016 22:21

looks like there was only one child born to Charles and Elizabeth in 1931

The Henry Charles Stoner died in 1937. And the Charles 1/12 in 1901 was Charles Thomas 1/3/1901, death 11/1986.

At least I've stablished that the 1939 transcription is rubbish. That helped. I've been in touch with a couple of grandchildren on genesre without any progress.

I don't know his parents' names, or where he was born - that would be too easy!

So it may have to join the unsolved, awaiting inspiration, pile.

Thanks for your time. Maybe someone else would like the challenge.

Alan
