The only reason I was searching in Marske by the Sea was the fact that there is a George Scrafton baptised there in 1741; which fitted the date range I have for my George. I wasn't actually looking for Marske but yes it was there in the 1700s. Many Scraftons in Marske by the Sea too - then called Marske in Cleveland. |

I have just realised that there is a Marske near Richmond, North Yorkshire (to the west of Richmond) which is quite different from Marske near Redcar. I think the records you have found from Marske would be from the one near Richmond as Marske near Redcar is a relatively new place and I don't think it would have been around in the 1700's. |

Yes Kath it was. Buried with his wife and first son James, either St Mary's Thirsk or St Mary's Bagby nr Thirsk; they're not on the Thirsk church's burial record though so maybe it's Bagby. |

Was this the death you found online? :- |

Hi Kath, yes I found the details online a few years ago - Family History Online but I now understand that their records are with FInd My Past. I took a break from research for a while and have just returned to it. I have tried to join Find My Past but it keeps declining my payment. |

The George L. Scrafton that I mentioned as living in Richmond Yorkshire is a living person who was born in 1954. I just meant that with his name and the fact that he was born so close to where "your" George married Elisabeth Simple that he "could" be a descendant of "your" George. |

Kath - thanks - I realise now you said he could be a descendant. What year in the Roll did you see him please? |

There is someone on the electoral roll living in Richmond, Yorkshire called George L. Scrafton who was born in Northallerton (which is very close to Welbury where the marriage to Elisabeth Simple took place). I wonder if he is a descendant who may have some information that could help you? |

There is a reason for the 1741/2. |

Find My Past has the actual images from Parish Register, looking at above, would say it should be under 1742, a Robert Smith ends 1741, Buried Dec 19, then Thomas Atkinson Jan 4th a couple more then George, under him written 1742... |

Wonder why it says 1741/2. Confusing! |
