Please can anyone tell me how much information is given on early marriage records? |

Probably the most you will get is both names and the date. No other detail is normally recorded. |

Thanks, it is George Scrafton marrying Elisabeth (or Elizabeth) Simple in Welbury, Yorkshire in 1777. I am trying to find out where George was born. His children were all based around Bagby near Thirsk. It is possible he came from Marske-by-the-Sea but I have no proof of that other than a note made many years ago that there was a George Scrafton christened 9-9-1741 in Marske. I cannot find that record though and so I am not sure that it is the right George Scrafton (so many of them!). |

Many thanks Rambling Rose! I am very grateful. No information there on his birth year or birthplace unfortunately. Thank you for helping though! |

Thank you Malyon and Rambling Rose. I guess I will have to try and trace more information on the George S. who lived in Welbury to ascertain where he was born - he could be either of those two in Marske or neither I reckon. |

Thanks, there are so many Georges though! As Welbury is near to Northallerton and Thirsk and I have names of children born to George and Elizabeth all located around Bagby and Thirsk, maybe that is the right area rather than children being born in Marske. I have their first child as James, born 1778 in Thirsk. (If I am right!) |

Thanks again - I think I need to concentrate on finding out more about George Scrafton living in Welbury and marrying there in 1777.... or about his wife Elizabeth Simple - to try and find out who was George's father and where he came from. |

Thanks Chris - I know that my George married in 1777 in Welbury so it's not that chap unfortunately. I will check out the FHS records and send off for Welbury ones. :-) |
