There is an interesting bit in the Manchester Times (can't copy) but in essence it is a missing person enquiry for a Josiah Crook by his daughter Mary Elizabeth. Josiah was last heard of in S America on Dec 4 1890. Left Manchester Nov 1888 where is was working for a railway company as a blacksmith.

Co-incidence?

you missed one (at least?) Chris

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1318412

far far too many threads about the same thing/person

totally unfair to people who try to help and end up repeating what has been done before

'cane' in future please add to one of your existing threads if you want to try again, so that others see what is known or has been tried already

... and don't state things as facts that are not (as in that last thread when you stated that a Josiah Crook in North Carolina was born in England when he wasn't)

familysearch has numerous records of a Guillermo Crook, seaman, born in Chile 1925, entering the USA 1947-1957

https://familysearch.org/search/record/results/?count=75&query=%2Bsurname%3Acrook%20%2Bany_place%3Achile

someone here has enquired about a James Crook 1875 England, in Brazil

http://sabrits.co.uk/C.php

there is a Guillermo (Willy) Crook in Galapagos (part of Ecuador)

https://www.facebook.com/CrookW?ref=br_rs

He seems to be the Eduardo Guillermo Crook who has this youtube channel and is a musician

https://www.youtube.com/user/comocrook

this is a very poor google translation of his biographical web page, but no family info

I would contact that person to enquire whether he has English roots, for example, although he was born in Argentina

still one would not think there are many South American families named Crook (I am related by marriage to a Chilean family, via an English/Scottish ancestor who had children there in the mid-1800s, and they are the only family by that name in South America)

Cane - it might have been useful to know that he was in S America when the 1891 census was taken. I and possibly others spent some time looking for him possibly working away from home in England.

lancsAnn

I think that is still some kind of guess ... although what was stated seems very authoritative I don't know where it came from!

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1318412

'He left England in 1888 to work on the anglo-chile nitrate railway tocopilla as a black ksmith....i dont know what happened to him after this...'

? how is this known, Cane?

but absolutely, the jumble of info and guesses in multiple threads helps no one

edit - the info comes from what Chris found published in Manchester in 1894, that Chris posted in

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/ancestors/thread/1303278

'Crook. - Tidings are required of Josiah Crook, last heard of in South America Dec 4th 1890. He left Manchester in Nov 1888 and worked on the Anglo-Chilli Nitrate Railway Company, Tocopilla, Chilli, as a blacksmith.
>> The inquirer is his daughter, Mary Elizabeth Crook, 20, Canning -street, Woodward-street, Ancoats, Manchester.'
