Find Ancestors

Help, I can't seem to find their marriage which will help me with their fathers names.
They seem to spend their life in and around Manchester.
Daughter Ann (Annie) Isherwood was born on 26/5/1876 in Fishpool Workhouse, Farnworth, Lancaster.
John at the time was a stripper and grinder of cotton cards and later on I see he is listed as a grinder. (I am not sure what this occupation is)

Thank you, to confirm I do have that certificate so I know mother's maiden name was Martin.
I just don't know where else to look for John & Elizabeth's marriage information.
Any suggestions?

Is there any other name mentioned for her mother on that cert Lianne - perhaps she was previously married and they married under her first husband's name?

All it says is Elizabeth Isherwood formerly Martin but it could read marlin or mailin??? tricky hand writing I must say!

I see that Anne was still in the Workhouse on 1881 census but with her parents on 1891.

I will see if I can trace them through.

i cant find them on the 1891 census there is one annie with father john but mother is harriet

there is a annie showen as niece in 1891

On the 1881 census for Annie at the workhouse, there is a 72 year old James Isherwood a few lines down from her.

Doesn't help with a marriage but may prove relevant somewhere.

Thank you all for your assistance, I also think the above is correct. I did wonder if John & Elizabeth had any other children as they must have been mid 30's when they had Ann (Annie) in the workhouse.

I can see Elizabeth also in the workhouse on 1881 info but not John, did try to find him and there are a few John Isherwood as lodgers but it was hard to pin him down.

Without marriage certificate is it possible go back any further or am I at the end of the line now :-(

Amazing Dea, I clearly have much to learn. Can I ask where you searched for the birth records? was it through Genes Reunited?

Do you think I should order the birth certificates to see their movements and John's occupation status during that period?

Looking at the dates of birth, don't you think John & Elizabeth might be too old to still be having children in the late 1800's?

As you can see from my message above Lianne, I have discounted these births as I found them to be the children of a William Isherwood and a Hannah Martin.

On the 1881 census for Annie in the Workhouse it says not known where born, but if she was born in same Workhouse then why didn't they know??

The Eliza Isherwood in the same workhouse 1881 says she is single.

I was thinking that Elizabeths name on Ann's birth said Maclin as the T wasn't crossed and the R didn't look like other R's on the certificate.
