As Jan says, the marriage certificate would be your best bet. It would give his approximate age and his father's name and occupation if you are lucky. |

Thanks Kath and lostmeboardname . Seems like I need to be persuasive to get the marriage certificate then. |

On the image for the 1899 baptism of Emily Beatrice Adams, father Charles was a brass caster and they lived 1 Court, 1 House, Milton Street. |

Thank you Marie Celeste, I am sure you are right that the Midlands Adams family are just coincidence as, working back from the known marriage that Chris quotes all the Bradford/Shipley stuff fits and is known by 'the Pettinger family' for whom I am doing the sleuthing. It really had me going for a while .....! |

In the 1901 census above Mary Adams gives herself as married, so Charles is still alive. Can anybody see him around in the 1901 as I would like to find out where he was born and then another census to show him with his family please? |

Without any idea of when/where he was born, or his occupation, then that's going to be tricky. FindMyPast fetches up 1,674 for that name on the 1901 census. Obviously, a proportion can be eliminated by way of age. |

Thank you MarieCeleste, thinking about it some more, Charles might have been only 20 when he married Mary Hannah so it is quite hopeless to know who Charles was. I hope I don't have to wait until my new grandson has been born before I get a response from the family ! |
