Hi lancashireAnn, thank you for your concern about Charles c.1801 and I have seen one reference to 1799, but there are no entries in IGI giving parents so no going further back on this name. The 1861, after his second marriage to Elizabeth Mayes, does confirm 1801 and he seems to have only one child, George c.1831, by his first marriage, who carries the line forward and is the father of Charles on the 1882 Marriage Certificate as well as living locally at that time (1881 Census). |

I think we have to be careful with Charles b 1801 as there does seem to be more than one. |

Sorry Austin, seems like you are before me yet again. At least we can admit 'great minds think alike' lol |

Looking through the 1851 census from another source, the birth date for Elizabeth Dudley is given as 1800 so perhaps the age of 57 should read 51? |

Actually, by calculation 1784 is far too early so there must be another Elizabeth in there somewhere? |

Thank you AustinQ, no I have been naughty and moved it to a new thread as I thought it had got 'lost' but your response is exactly what I was hoping for and gives me a new area for research. |

Oh, you deleted your query? Did you find the information? |

I think the Elizabeth (age 4 on the 1841 census) is actually his wife and think the original image for the 1841 is faded. I think her age should be 40 or 41. |

Thank you lancashireAnn and AustinQ, all is now explained and my reason for doubts is solved as it is Mary Hannah that gave me my problem, upside down. Her age on the marriage is incorrect and should have been 29 so she and Charles were not the same age at 25. Working it through all the info on Charles fits and now we know why he was missing from the family in 1891. Thank you for all your efforts. I still have one block on my progress back as Charles' grandfather Charles does not have a full record of birth in IGI for 1801 so no parents showing up. |

Thank you Chris. This family now seems somewhat confused against info given on marriage certificate so I am going to leave it until tomorrow and see if a new day will enable me to sort it. |
