My great grandfather Christopher Faithful or possibly William Christopher Faithful born circa 1871 appears in the 1901 census as being born in East Indies. In the 1911 census he is called William C Faithful and is recorded as being in The Convict Prison Princetown Dartmoor. I can find what I think is his death certificate, which has him recorded as Christopher W Faithful, which records his death in Lewisham in 1915. |

It must be the wrong one, I think that census is for William Conrad Faithful - registered in India under military records. |

Not sure I agree with you Jude, if you look at the 1902 conviction he is a bricklayer - and the details tally with the full conviction list in 1907. |

This does cast some doubts as to his real name and place of birth, and whether he invented the father James. What would a jeweller be doing in India - he obviously wasn't military otherwise the birth would be coming up on FMP. |
