Find Ancestors

My grandfather Benjamin Gordon miles, settled up in Glasgow after ww2 and he never spoke about the family he left. All I could find out was that he spoke of his brother Edward Ralph miles and they lived in dagenham before he left for ww2.

I've found a Ben g miles born/registered 1920 in west ham, Essex with mothers maiden name marsh

I've also found Edward Ralph miles born 1912 in Swindon, Wiltshire with mothers maiden name marsh.

I'm confident that these two records are right and the maiden name is marsh.

I've found Beatrice Alice marsh who married Charles w miles in 1990 in holborn, London.

I'm struggling from here to find any more info on Beatrice and Charles. In the 1911 census I have a Beatrice Alice miles who is working and listed under an address as a housekeeper with a birth year 1881.

Any help/tips much appreciated.

If your grandfather died in Scotland, his death registration will give the names of his parents including his mother's maiden surname if the informant knew the details. Also if he married in Scotland, his marriage registration will name his parents.

so this may or may not be the Beatrice who married Mr Miles, and they may or may not be the Marsh and Miles parents of your man ... and those may or may not be children of theirs :-)

but the certificates will give you facts to be moving on with!

I would wait until you get the certificates Miles. Otherwise we are just guessing as his parents could have married in Wiltshire or West Ham or indeed anywhere. Also if his Mum had been married before she would have married Ben's Dad using a different name to Marsh.

Only worry is that my dad told me my grandad didn't speak about them. Is it possible he didn't disclose the information when he married?

Always possible Miles but usually there's an element of truth on the marriage details so it still may prove helpful.
