Thanks guys - Potty the Hunt family from Bisley doesnt seem to fit I'm afraid - but the great news is - that rules THEM out!

I will need to check to James from Colwall ( 1851census) - but doubt if thats MY James Hunt.......Does it give the occupation of Willian Colston ? - Is he the head of the family? If not - who is - it maybe a farm or pub or ? ( ie what type of work is James doing etc)......that may help me. ( shame it doesnt say where in Herefordshire he was born , as that would help too ).

The Thomas Hunt in 1841in the workhouse - looks good....worth progressing in some way. Have we found him in 1851?

This could be Thomas and William - ages are a bit out and they both have a middle Initial. The address is Belle View House, which seems to be a school. Lots of other names which I haven't posted:

Edit: Forget that - I think the one below is more likely:

2> Is Hannah HUNT, Hannahs married name or her maiden name?
3> Did Hannah Hunt ever marry?

Maddie - Many thanks for all your help......have gained a lot from yourself & Potty..Thank you both.

I started off by trying to identify the correct John Southall a farmer who is named as Ann Hunts father on her marriage to James Nash in the parish records 1839.
(her mother was Ann Hunt on her baptism parish record - no fathers name shown)

Im not sure that I have yet truly identified John Southall - but have identified - A- John Southall right age in right area - his sister Agatha ( Agnes) & sibling Robert & father Thomas Southall.....so more to double check......I really could do with finding John Southalls marriage (pref to a Hannah Hunt )......

Not sure where to go from here...

Anyway - thank you both very much.

the 1879 entry may not be them as they appeared to have died by then. Maybe a relative.
Richard could be a son maybe ?

I found this:
Bishop’s Frome Cassey Directory of Herefordshire 1858
Hodges Mrs. Agnes, beer retailer

Bishop's Frome, Herefordshire
Extract from Post Office Directory of Herefordshire, 1863
Hodges Agnes (Mrs.), beer retailer
Hodges Richard, farmer,

NB: Dont know who Richard Hodges is - I thought Agnes was married to William Hodges - perhaps Richard is his brother???

spotted this on a site entitled: family history documents for sale Herefordshire:
Could be that this is Willam Hodges & Wife Agnes:
60/46 Bishops Frome - 1879 - Mortgage of properties as security for overdraft by Thomas James Ward in favour of Messrs Webb & Co, Ledbury (John Cam Thackwell, Joseph Webb, Edward John Webb, & Henry Moore). Details of properties and land (with names & acreage), including an Inn, cottage & hop kiln, cottage & wain house. Properties originally acquired by Ward's uncle - Thomas Ward. All the lands appear to have been occupied by William Hodges, as tenant.

So - I assume the 'INN' refered to here is New Inn, as shown on the census for William Hodges

Assuming she is the Ann Hunt who married James Nash, this is the GRO ref for the marriage:

Name:Ann Hunt
Registration Year:1839
Registration Quarter:Jul-Aug-Sep
Registration district:Newent

Inferred County:Gloucestershire
Volume:11

Ann Hunt
Hannah Morgan
James Nash
Thomas Winter

The marriage cert will show if her father is actually shown as John Southall (wondered if a witness had been accidentally transcribed as father).

Relationships aren't shown on the 1841, neither is Agness's occupation but William is an Innkeeper and they are living in the New Inn.

Maddie

Maddie Report 24 Jun 2014 10:40

as Ann is a widow in 1851 i assume William is her husband, BUT 1841 does not show relationships. His occupation difficult to read
--- keeper, however living at New Inn ( a pub maybe ???)
