Well, of the two candidates for Edith Winifred Yates, I think Edith Winifred Mabel has already been successfully ruled out, but her birth date is also out with the 1886 birth in your new found source.

Did the marriage have a father for Edith Winifred? Would be so nice if it were Henry...

Nor sure where to start checking out the rest. Roach could be Ireland, Scotland as well as India and England. :-(

EDIT: 1872 was given as JAR's year of birth in his death record posted by +++DetEcTive+++ on page 1 of this thread. Information on the death reg is only as good as the knowledge of the informant. They might easily have got the birthday right, but the year wrong.

I have no idea if the couple breeding in Massachusetts are the same as your William Roach and Elizabeth White.

These are almost certainly the same couple under a variant spelling in Massachusetts:

Ellen Roach's baptism clashes with an 1872 birth for John Anthony??? Unless he was born 1873 and the death record got it wrong.

With the exceptin of the Ellen/John potential clash, all the other births take place after the India wedding and before the birth of John Anthony

Problem is, if the information you found was submitted from someone's tree, you don't know how much of it was accurate, and how much was supposition.

I still can't actually tie JAR to John Roach and Elizabeth White who married in 1854 in India, as we still have no record of his birth. They may well be spot on, but as yet we cannot confirm it.

EDIT: In the 1861 Army list there is more than one John Roach currently serving in India, and others serving elsewhere, so it seems to have been quite a common name.

If she married in 1903 as you say - I can't corroborate that yet, she would have been 16 more or less, so quite feasible, especially in India. Grace D'Silva was also only about 16 when she married.

On the image of the marriage register Edith's father is HENRY Yates. No occupation given. Groom's father John Roach is deceased. Groom is a Guard on H H N G S Ry ( I might have got initials wrong)
