brigid Report 23 Nov 2013 18:38

well that's intriguing ; I won't see the relative til next week
Martha being nearly 100 correlates but living in Macclesfield does not I was told she lived in Abbey St Derby til her death.
William's wife was called Gertrude but he was still living in the photo I saw (late 50's)so I don't know if she could have remarried to a Mr Stevenson ...does probate always go to family members ??

Stuart; You're right Stanley Winter was not martha's son

The 4 living children on 1911 census for Martha Hempstock nee Davison would have been Albert b1893 ,John Henry (Jack )b 1903 Hempstock
William Thomas Davison b1883
Frederick Davison /Hempstock b1887

Chris; How lovely that there was a double wedding .

Reggie ; yes I did miss the birth ref for William J Fernley ; it would make him older than Martha and I must say on the photo (I'll ask my friend for an approx date) husband Jim looks more to be in his 70's when Martha was in her 90's with grown up grandchildren .The great grand-daughter thought he was a fair bit younger. .Maybe she had a 3rd husband

a GR member pm'ed me that the 4 hempstock boys were frederick ,sydney winter albert and jacky .
I assumed the Sydney W aged 1 with his grandad Seth was martha+ john winter's child.
The name Sydney didn't ring any bells with my friend tho she does remember Albert well and knows that 1 son went to WW1 underage married a lady called May both died of TB shortly afterward,
The other ...pushed a dray round Derby .

I was shown a lovely picture of the very elderly Martha + her 2nd husband "Jim"
with her sons Frederick and William and 4 grandchildren

You obviously didn't notice my posting of the Fernley man's birth record

Not that there need necessarily be any correlation between the given names and that by which he was known.

My late sister-in-law was officially named Irene........but was always known as Molly

Was Sydney Winter Hempstock a child of Martha?? He appears on the 1891 census as Grandchild of Seth and Probable son of Alice.
The 1901 census shows Alice still single with her 4 children, one of which is a Sydney!!

Are Martha's two Albert and John Henry (Jacky) as shown on the 1911 posted by Reggie or are there any others??

sorry Reggie yes i was wondering what Fernley's first name was . William doesn't fit but i suppose he could have gone by his middle name if J stands for james. thanks for the baptism details i don't think my friend knew where her grandfather + great grand mother were baptised . I'm off to give her all this information now .

brigid
