That is the one I was looking at Choccy but was unsure if the connection to that name was just 'presumed' because the name of the boarder on 1911 was mistranscribed as such.

EDIT - this one had a wife Evelyn living at the same address in 1911

which obviously doesn't preclude him from being the father of Frederick Robert Knapp!

Thanks everyone again for your help,
The Black family and Richmond Road connection is 100% the right family (thanks Dea) The family suggests that at some point, possibly Frederick Robert Pleasance changed he's name to Knapp, don't know why? just that the name Knapp is remembered by the family as being a part of their ancestry. The info about William going to Canada in 1911 and wife Sarah and daughter Maude travellling to Canada in 1912, ticks all boxes.. just the question of why the 2 son's John born 1898 and Frederick born 1900 where left behind...

Nicola

Nicola Report 22 Oct 2013 00:32

New info..My Frederick Pleasance, born 1900? was most certainly not blind, he 100% married Beatrice Iles in 1925, Shoreditch and he was reportedly a twin. Think I have been barking up the wrong tree..Just found Frederick Robert Knapp and William Wallace Knapp born June 1900, Bethnal Green. Surely this is my family..just 1 query the vol page is 213 for Fred and 214 for William, could they be twins???

Dea

Dea Report 22 Oct 2013 08:28

It is still possible!

If Fred was the last entry on the page then William could be the first entry on the following page so they could still be twins !

Nicola, the baptism for those two were posted on page 1, yes they were twins.

Their parents were William and Charlotte, William was a porter. I doubt that the William Wallace Knapp who died 1910 was their father (but may be wrong).

Dea

Dea Report 22 Oct 2013 20:05

I do agree MC but I can't seem to find anything more at the moment to prove this one way or the other !

I will keep at it!

Nicola Report 23 Oct 2013 21:41

Thanks all for your help again. I know for sure now that the Frederick Robert Pleasance I was looking for was Frederick Robert Knapp born June 1900, Bethnal green, along with twin William Wallace Knapp who died later the same year.
Choccy found a William Wallace Knapp born in 1868 and died in 1910 and MarieCeleste suggests that the parents could be William and Charlotte, but doubts that William who died in 1910 could be the father? Well done to all that have found anything of the twins and their parents, because other than their births I can't find a single thing about them or parents? calling again for the assistance of those in the know to solve the Pleasance Knapp Mystery..
Kind regards to all
Nicky

Nicky, have you looked at the baptisms posted on page 1 of your thread?

I'm afraid you really should buy the marriage certificate, there could be very useful clues on there.

Nicola

Nicola Report 24 Oct 2013 00:19

The Marriage cert will not be arriving until the 30th Oct went for the cheaper £9.25 option, thinking there will be either a lot of blank spaces with the name change from Knapp to Pleasance, or the answer to many questions.
As always everyone has been a great help.

Nicola

Nicola Report 25 Oct 2013 23:47

Awaiting Marriage cert for Frederick Robert Pleasance(previously Knapp) Born June 1900, Bethnal Green, and yes it will give some info on parents etc. But why can I find no trace of him in the 1901 or 1911 census? I am working on pay for view, but so far have found nothing remotely close to him to spend credits on.
I know I should just wait for the cert to arrive, but any help or advice in the meantime very welcome.

Nicola Report 2 Nov 2013 21:34

Hi all, need your help again.
I received the marriage cert for Frederick Robert Pleasance and Beatrice Iles in March 1925, Shoreditch.
i was hoping it would show his father's name as Knapp ( as i know Fred was born Frederick Robert Knapp, 1900, Bethnal Green) but no.. details of cert are: Frederick Robert Pleasance, aged 24, Bachelor, Occ: Railway Porter, Address 46 Ely Place, Shoreditch. Father's name: Albert Pleasance (deceased) Occ: Carpenter. Bride Beatrice May Iles living at same address.
Can anyone advise me where I go from here??? I have ordered he's birth cert as Frederick Robert Knapp but can't find any related Pleasance's or Knapp's on census or BMD's.. Help Please

patchem Report 3 Nov 2013 08:51

If the information about the father is accurate, he must die between 1899 and 1925, so one of these:

Deaths Jun 1910
PLEASANCE Albert W 57 Cambridge 3b 257
Deaths Jun 1922
PLEASANCE Albert F 63 Islington 1b 282

Cannot see obvious birth for Albert F Pleasance - he could be calling himself Frank or Fred etc?.

However, if he died in Canada, then these deaths not useful.

Dea

Dea Report 3 Nov 2013 10:10

I believe we have lost the 'Canada connection' now Patchem as they were the family of the other Frederick Pleasance - William Charles and Sarah......

Albert F Pleasance who died in 1922 seems the likely father, Frederick was born Frederick Robert Knapp in 1900. when did the Pleasance name come in to use? waiting for the birth cert for Fred and hoping he's father's name was Albert F Knapp? Where I go after that??? How can I confirm anything with a name change?

Waiting for birth cert for Frederick Robert Knapp to arrive..born Jun 1900 Bethnal Green. Still can find no trace of him in 1901 or 1911 census with either Knapp or Pleasance surname..Father Albert Pleasance, Occ:Carpenter, living in Shoreditch and died before 1925, I can find no trace of either..Have searched the surname Knapp for Albert, with no results. so frustrating...Thanks Chris Ho for the info on Albert Pleasance in Cambridge, but not sure this is the Albert I'm looking for..I know it is possible for whole families to be missed off the 1911 census as my own Batten family were. I thought I was just very unlucky. Can anyone do a street search for 46 Ely Place Shoreditch in the 1911 census?
