Looking for a distant relative found him but birth certificate gives a diferent name i have gone down all routes with the name on certificate but no luck any help would be greatfull Thanks |

This probably sounds like a stupid question; but if the birth certificate gives the wrong name, what makes you think it is the right birth certificate? :-S |

As there were no penalties until 1875 for not registering births, the odds are that his simply wasn't registered. |

But his birth may not have been registered there were no penalties till 1875 for non registration so many didnt bother. The Church still had a LOT of influence then so it was thought to be more important to have the child baotised |
