This is confusing!! 1911 same address as 1881 but different wife. Says married 19 years so 1892 the year he married Janet Kirk Bleackley. No marriage found to the 1911 lady, Maria. It is Maria who is mentioned in Williams probate that Gins found.
EDIT.....1911 reads Mercia as in Williams Probate

So who the flip was the William and Janet marriage in 1892 that ties up with the address and right children in 1901 but is still the same address in 1911 but now with Mercia.
Did he marry Mercia in 1891 leave her and marry Janet in 1892 and then some time between 1901 and 1911 go back to Mercia
I have completely lost the plot now. :-D

Yes, I think the plot has been lost here :-D :-D
We started off with Mary Jane - she died a spinster and Sir William Thom KBE administered her estate. - This William was born c 1866.
Her father William was born c 1843. He was the one who married Penelope etc.
There are two Williams connected to her - one her father, and the KBE one who married Mercia.

Suspect William KBE is her brother.....there is an immigration record in 1931 of William with Mercia travelling with Frank born 1874

Bingo!
71 England Census about William Thone Name: William Thone Age: 6 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1865 Relation: Son Father's Name: William Thone Mother's Name: Penelope Thone Gender: Male Where born: Blackburn, Lancashire, England Civil parish: Blackburn Ecclesiastical parish: Holy Trinity Town: Blackburn County/Island: Lancashire Country: England Registration district: Blackburn Sub-registration district: Blackburn ED, institution, or vessel: 47 Household schedule number: 131 Piece: 4178 Folio: 15 Page Number: 27 Household Members: Name Age William Thone 28 Penelope Thone 27 William Thone 6 Mary J Thone 3 Harry Thone 2
So still doesn't explain why Mary Jane is alone with five servants in 1911. And why she is shown as daughter!

Just for Jude.
No, extra bit added to a census, nothing to do with Maria/Mercia.
To everyone else:
I was waiting for Kenneth to return as he is a new poster and may want to do a little himself.

Probate for William 1843 Mary Janes father says
THOMAS William of Dutton Manor died 13/08/1913 probate to William, Henry and Frank Thomas mechanical engineers £128,089.6s.7d Resworn as £127,987.7s.10d
So he was at this address in 1913 Also the Enumerators list say for this address "Gentlemans Residence, W Thom Esq". But under population of house it does say 6 females. o I think somehow he was not written on the census but this would explain why Mary Jane is down as daughter

Is the bottom line of all discussion resolved in that Dutton Manor was owned by W Thom Esq in 1911 and she was his daughter
That being the case then my interest is waining and my tree remains un-eventfull.
Thanks to all
kenneth :-)

history of the hall
http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=53187 In the Clayton family the manor descended regularly, (fn. 4b) coming about 1400 to the Belfields of Clegg in Rochdale. (fn. 5) From their heirs the manor was acquired in or about 1578 by Sir Richard Shireburne of Stonyhurst, (fn. 6) and descended in due course to Thomas Weld, who became a cardinal in 1829, and in 1831 sold Dutton to Joseph Fenton of Bamford Hall, a manufacturer and banker of Rochdale. (fn. 7) Mr. Fenton, who also purchased the adjacent manors of Bailey and Ribchester, died in 1840, (fn. 8) and was succeeded by his son James, who in turn at his death in 1857 was succeeded by his eldest son, also named James. He died in 1902, the present lord of the manor of Dutton being his eldest surviving son, Mr. Robert Kay Fenton, born in 1853.
