Ann-Marie Report 30 Jan 2013 20:12

Hi ya, I'm so sorry I have missed this, our exchange went down due to bloody snow..... Grrr and then the ice meant nobody could get to fix it!!

Right so to start the way I read Dorothy's obit means that she was the last of her 11 brothers and sisters (pre deceased by) so there is no on of her age left...

And we think that Harry and Frances adopted her? I see the link for my telephone who do I search to call? Also do I call? As I don't know for sure if she knows, (if she is still alive) I know the a word is a bit tricky and I'm not causing a debate etc but just don't know if I should? And where did you find all this info? I have scoured ancestry extensively but to no avail!!!

Thank you all for your help!! X

Havent found a death for Frances as yet....she would be 98 if she were alive....spose its possible?

Ann-Marie Report 30 Jan 2013 22:22

I also wondered something, as Emily it appears died in the workhouse (am trying to find out who holds the records for the workhouse in Richmond as I'm in London next month and can have a nosey around and see what's there) if Penelope was born in the welsh workhouse? As from 1904 they were not allowed to put workhouse anymore and they have a list of fake address used, but none listed for Wales, I need to find the cert in my huge pile and see what it says, or she may have gone in with her mum and been adopted afterwards? Would the workhouse records for Emily show me if she came in with children etc? And what happened to them? I've not found any member of my family to have been in a workhouse thus far so not too sure what the record could tell me?

I also wonder if it is worth my while to purchase the death cert for Emily? As usually it is registered by the workhouse officer as opposed to a family member?

Ann-Marie - the obit names some kids, etc. This generation would be in their 60s & 70s, most likely. I'ld start by trying to call them. If you get any of her rellies, you can ask them for names and addy's of who you'ld be best to contact.

Ann-Marie Report 31 Jan 2013 00:21

Only trouble I have now is what would married names be? Or are they the ones in brackets?

Moody Blue

Moody Blue Report 31 Jan 2013 00:27

Ann-Marie, I dont think that Emily was in a workhouse as the Electoral Roll for the years 1957 and 1958 specify that she was registered at the address also shared with Frances and Harry Hudson which was 32 Cypress Avenue Whitton Twickenham Middlesex. That Road runs behind Whitton High St and the church is on the Hounslow Road.. The Parish & Poor Law Union is just stating that she died within the parish of Whitton St Philip and St James which the home in Cypress Avenue came under. Twickenham cemetery is where my grandparents are buried and I used to live in the next road to Cypress Avenue.

Ann-Marie - sorry, I should have reread the obit before replying. I didn't realize all her kids were girls - it looks like the names in parentheses are the forenames of spouses, so not much help when BC marrs are closed for 75y

Ah ok! My error I have never seen poor district listed on a death record before, me jumping to assumptions lol

So i will order the death cert then, and see what it may show up, also on ansestry from the person who knew of penny growing up with the conroys it shows a death for Frances as 2/12/1987 in Wrexham Denbighshire Wales, I can find no record of this even in 1988 first quarter and Peggy tree owner is not too sure in the details, as I wondered if Penelope may have registered her death?

There are a few Richard conroys listed, as I'm not sure if they are in vc, I might write a letter to the funeral home who arranged the funeral for it to be passed on, it's a long shot but I may get a response.

Ann-Marie

Ann-Marie Report 31 Jan 2013 15:02

Well I just phoned twikenham cemetery and that is Emily's death, as the grave was paid in full by a f Hudson, it's a two person grave but only one person is in there. When I go to London I will go and see the grave, possibly flowers may be laid there? May give me a shot, there was no address listed for the grave as a contact so no joy there but at least we know for sure it is her death

Ann-Marie

Do you know when Emily' parents died?

Where does the 'Gresley' name come from?

Ann-Marie

Ann-Marie Report 31 Jan 2013 19:57

Hi ya, I have called every r Conroy in the Canadian phone book, and a few did not answer but the rest are not him :-( I have spoken to the funeral home and they are happy for me to post off a letter on my behalf so I shall be putting pen to paper tonight.

Emily's mum and dad: Robert John Gresley-jones died 13/07/1936 st Asaph Wales
Elisabeth Cornwall (mn) died 19/02/1948 Prestatyn Wales

So Gresley is a double barrelled surname x

Oh and I called the f Hudson, and it was not her. But Canadians are very friendly helpful people though! :-D
